The Phillies had two four run innings and beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 in game two of the National League Championship series to take a 2-0 lead heading to LA.
Pitcher Brett Myers came up big, not on the hill, but at the plate. He was 3-for-3 with three singles and three RBI, including one with two outs.
“I’m not a very good hitter,” said Myers, who became the first pitcher to get three hits in an NLCS game. “I just get lucky occasionally. I’m baffled by it. I would’ve rather pitched better.”
Charlie Manuel loved getting this win. Yesterday afternoon, his mother died. He wanted to manage the Phillies and win this game and the World Series for his mother.
“I know Charlie told me he talked to his mom on a regular basis and her only concern was for him to go out and win ball games,” Dodgers manager Joe Torre said.

The Phils rallied around him and center fielder Shane Victorino. Victorino's grandmother died Friday morning, unfortunately.
Victorino made a huge catch to save the game in the 7th, had two hits, four RBI and a triple. Just another day at the office, huh?
“We really wanted to win today for Charlie,” closer Brad Lidge said.
The series shifts to LA on Sunday where 45 years young Phillies starter Jamie Moyer will take on Dodgers hurler Hiroki Kuroda.
Myers wasn't sharp at all in Game three of the NLCS, where he lost to the Brewers. He allowed five runs on six hits in five innings.
“He had four hits all year and three today. That’s tough to count on and defend against,” Torre said, speaking of Brett Myers’ three hit performance.
With Manny Ramirez being Manny Ramirez, he hit his 27th career playoff home run, a record. It was 8-2 Phils, and just for Pete's sake, Manny decided to bomb a three run homer to left to make it 8-5.
As Manny walked to the dugout congratulated by teammates, he had some choice words for Myers, upset he was brushed back on a pitch.
“He said, “you’re going to get somebody hurt out here,” Myers said. “The ball slipped out of my hand. I don’t want to hurt their best player."
I guess two teams are chanting Beat LA now.
