Former LSU Tigers In The NFL

Bleacher ReportAnalyst IOctober 11, 2008

Currently, there are 41 former LSU players playing in the NFL (four of those players are on practice squads), which is a record for LSU.

Among the more popular are JaMarcus Russell (above), DeWayne Bowe (Chiefs WR), Joseph Addai (Colts HB), Glenn Dorsey (Chiefs DT) and Kevin Mawae (Titans C).

Twenty-two of the 41 players are starters at their positions on their teams. The Tigers have at least three former players on the rosters of the following teams: Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, and the Buffalo Bills.

The position with the most LSU influence in the NFL is that of wide receiver and defensive line as the Tigers have seven former players occupying each of those positions in the pro ranks.

In the 2008 NFL Draft, Eight Tigers were drafted by various teams. DT Glenn Dorsey was the highest Tiger selected after being selected as the fifth overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs. JaMarcus Russell was the first overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
