The reality check for the Blue and White has come, and it has come hard and quick.
On Saturday night the Montreal Canadiens showed the Leafs for what they are, a bunch of over-paid veterans, over-hyped AHLers, and under-developed prospects. The Canadiens beat the Leafs by a drubbing 6-1 victory.

The draft lottery is now in our sights, only 80 more losses to go and we got Tavares in the bag.
This should wake up those delusional fans who think going down with the ship is some noble act. I much prefer jumping off the boat into a life raft and throwing bombs at the vessel I was just aboard. Explosions are cool, right?
However, and sadly, there was one plus out of last nights game; in his first regular season appearance with the Buds in over six years, Curtis Joseph, posted a shut out.

lol! dont be that harsh on the leafs ... at some points, if it wasnt for the montreal goalies' pipes, the game might have been a little more ... different!

You know what, if you have no idea what your talking about then don't speak at all. This saves yourself a lot of embarrassment. Toronto played their first game and beat the NHL's best 3-2, and don't bother with the "Detroit didn't try hahaha i'm so smart". Look at Calgary for a good example lost season opener 6-0 and lost again last night. Give up bashing the Leafs because you have nothing better to do man. I also know next time the meet it will be a completely different story. Toronto will be ready and will remember the filthy way the Canadians played with they're nifty little hits from behind.

It sounds like Jeff listens to Don "Sour Grapes" Cherry a little too often.
That pathetic fossil had the scr**um to proclaim that Kovalev wouldn't have scored his goal if the Leafs defenceman didn't have to have both hands on his stick. What a joke! Besides, that rule applies to BOTH teams on the ice.
The only thing more laughable than the leafs is the perpetual stream of lame excuses that they produce.
Yes .. there was 1 hit from behind. We were penalized.
As you guys were penalized for your indiscretions ( stick swinging, as well as that dumb-ass rookie's ego outburst) We, at least, capitalized on them.
So you beat Detroit ... BIG DEAL! We beat them twice in pre-season. Detroit starts slow but they'll be there at the end where they're expected to be.
So here we go with another NEXT TIME ...(it's always "next time or "next year") We've been listening to that for 40 years, excuse us if we're not paying attention anymore.
So the leafs will "remember" ? That's all they can do. Don't for a minute try and convince me that some junior is going to take on George Laroques, the reigning heavyweight of the NHL ( we've aced you there, as well) You didn't even face our whole team last night.
But there's always hope ... maybe Mats Sundin will decide he wants to finish his career in the minors and return to the Roger's Center :)
... speaking of saving yourself embarrassment ....

Scratch the Roger's Center from above ... make that the Air Canada whatever ....
(whatever happened to the Gardens, the Forum and the like?)

"a bunch of over-paid veterans" WTF, r u talkin about the average age on the Leafs roster is 25. As for your plan to just off the boat and throw bombs at it, well that just shows you aren't true fan of-not only the leafs-but the game of Hockey itself.
No team should every "throw bombs at the vessel" to get an overrated asshole like John Tavares, This guy has skill he can put the puck in the net but his skating(especially back checking) is horrible.

haha tyler, chill... this is a humour piece, and it's done its job obviously, these reaction are priceless.

Thank you Tyler your 100% right. Again over-paid veterans lol he sure knows what he's talking about. As for you Anthoney take a look at the bottom of the west and like I said Calgary is doing worse there is a lot of teams doing worse then Toronto and Toronto has to work harder for what they get. Tyler is also right about Tavares he'd be lazy but the scoring may be nice i don't know. I'd say it would be safest to go with Hedman. Stralman, Schenn, and Hedman is not a bad core for D.

That saying Toronto does that bad which I don't see happening.

I guess the hab fans above forget when there team was in this position, does missing the playoffs 4 times in 5 years ring any bells???
Just be easy here, TML are not the greatest, but they've taken steps this year, with those steps will come losses, especially against fast teams like the habs (who IMO are legitimate contenders).
To the writer of the article, you must be one of those hab fans that hates the leafs, more then he likes the habs... you know, the type that know everything about the leafs, even though they proclaim to hate them... just stick to commenting on your team, write an article about how kovalev scored that beauty of a goal, with a soccer like turn... instead of leaf bashing.
