I am a huge, huge Michigan fan. I was born and raised maize and blue. We've had season tickets in my family for the past 10 years.
I suffered through the predictable Lloyd Carr seasons. "Suffered" isn't really the word, more like enjoyed and dealt with. That being said, this is the WORST Michigan team I have ever seen! Granted, I'm only 24, but come on!
How does a Michigan team lose to a 1-4 MAC team? Toledo was the 110th overall defense coming in to the game. They let in an average of 35 points per game this season. Michigan scored 10 points.
10 POINTS?! Come on! I could have scored 10 points against Toledo. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but you get my point.
Does anyone know what the spread offense is? The spread is used to spread out the defense and spread out the ball. Wow, what a concept considering the word spread is in the name of the offense.
Way to go, Rich Rodriguez; give the ball to one person, Sam McGuffie. McGuffie is good but not great; he's not even the best back on the team. I'd take Carlos Brown or Brandon Minor any day of the week over McGuffie.
- B/R Ticket Guide
Do our coaches know how to coach the offense? The spread offense coached by RichRod is more predictable than the offense run by Mike DeBoard.
Steven Threet was taken out in the second half for what reason exactly? I understand to give Nick Sheridan his time playing quarterback, but after he threw a pick, I would have been done with him.
Also, you're trying to go down the field and score. Wouldn't you put in your better passer? Everyone says Threet is the better passer and Sheridan is the better runner; why was he out when you were down trying to make throws to get back in the game?
Some people would like to blame KC Lopata. Yes, he missed a 26-yard field goal. The fact is that we should not have been in that position in the first place.
It shouldn't have come down to a field goal to TIE the game and send it in to overtime. Michigan should have killed Toledo. They should have won by at least three touchdowns.
I am honestly ashamed to be a Michigan fan for only the second time in my life. Yes, the other time is when we lost to I-AA Appalachian State last year. At least they have National Championships and oh yea, we also scored 32 points on them. Way to go, Michigan.
I'm sorry, but I hope this is Rich Rod's one and only year. No one can defend the fact that he has a young team and they aren't his personnel, blah, blah.
The fact is that he has a top 10 recruiting class in his sophomores, juniors, and seniors. His freshmen aren't exactly terrible.
How does a team with so much talent just plain suck? Coaching. They aren't prepared for games, not in shape to get over a loss, and can't even carry the ball in the correct hand.
This is coaching, people. I just hope Michigan can somehow by the faith of God win enough games to be bowl eligible. No, I'm not holding my breath.

awesome! fire him! Send him to Wisconsin I believe we need a coach who knows what he's doing and can recruit.
I guess this Michigan fan doesn't get that yes Mr Carr left some talented players then but totally designed to fit another system. Wait till next year and the year after when rich rod gets his recruits into that team. You'll be singing his praises then.
As soon as a Pat White type turns up in Ann Arbour the Wolverines will be back.

Next year with RRods new recruits you are still looking at a TEAM of freshmen and sophomores that are undersized on offense. The defense will be worse with graduation. Michigan is looking at aleast 3-4 years of losing seasons. I agree with you Steve, there are talented players left by Coach Carr. Coach Rod just doesn't want them. They are ONLY sophomores. They were not in Carr's system long enough not to be able to adapt to Coach Rod's. They had a year experience on the college level and you have incoming freshmen still on a high school level adapting quicker to to RR system? Not to mention the physical stature of one class to the other. Martavious Odoms 5'9" 165lbs. better than Toney Clemons 6'3" 203lbs. or Martell Webb 6'4" 205lbs? Sam McGuffie better than Brandon Minor or Carlos Brown? We should be singing RR praises now....if he WOULD coach the talent he has been blessed with.

face it ..Michigan is down, will be for quite some time....loss to Toledo...Pathetic. Nothing we Buckeyes love to see more than a bunch of whining.....crying Wolverines....wait until you feel our wrath. Michigan is a freaking joke. R Rod only won at WV because they played a high school schedule. You will be dominated by a slow big 10...and we have already seen what the MAC can do to you. The Ohio State University farts in yoru general direction!

It's not just coaching, it's coaching and players. The players on the roster right now are not capable of running the spread, so Rodriguez is having to adjust around them.
from about 1 month ago
I would agree with that. The only problem is Rich Rod isn't adjusting. That's my point. They don't fit his system, but he continues to try and play by his rules instead of adjusting and fixing his system to fit his players. Thanks for the comment!

Stay away from the TV this weekend.

I'm confused. He's supposed to be such a great coach...but apparently this recruiting class came in without the ability to tackle, without the ability to even run an effective blocking scheme. Heck, the quarterback -- pick one -- can't seem to figure out how to throw a completion...and if the toss is on the mark, the receivers seem to forget how to hang on to the ball.
Weren't these kids recruited with the knowledge and basic skills of football already learned?
At some point a coach and his staff need to take some responsibility for their team and stop telling us how people are improving. These recruits are already among the best football players in the nation or else they never would have been offered positions & scholarships.

U know Toledo put up 54 on Fresno St right? we only gave up 13 points...none of which came on offense. This team isn't the worst by far.Look at the history books a little more buddy cause Bump Elliot had some terrible teams and Oosterbanns last team went 2-6.Ur just another foolish fan that knows nothing about the game or RR.RR started his first season at 3-8,second season he was 8-4 i believe and third season and every year after he finished top 2 in the Big East winning the conference every year but one.His teams are 3-0 in BCS games with impressive victories in each one of them.U know why he gives the ball to McGuffie and only McGuffie....CAUSE HE DOESN'T FUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!all the others do and Carlos Brown is too soft and is always hurt.RR is getting the freshman big play time to gain experience so he can build a team like A GREAT COACH would.McGuffie is special only thing the kid needs to do is improve his field vision and then he will be great.Learn facts before u give lame opinions like the one above.U have no worthy facts to back up anything you've said.

In the article I state this is the worst Michigan team I have ever seen which is true because I was born in 1984. Also, I went through the stats for the season. McGuffie does have a fumble and Minor has a couple. Threet has the most with 3. The only other running back that fumbled was Grady. Thanks for the comment, but RR is giving playing time to 1 person and it's obviously not working - spread the ball out. Have a good day.

Shaw i believe has one too...in the Illinois game.Sorry misunderstood the whole worst team thing,my bad. This team doesn't look good in the stats or in the Win and Loses column, however, they are making strides that average fans won't see.If you're a hardcore fan that pays close attention to details you will see the real positives.Btw McGuffie doesn't really have a fumble the one time he fumbled was actually Sheridan fault i do believe so rather that gave the fumble to McGuffie or not it wasn't his fault stupid ass Sheridan tried pulling the ball out too late resulting in a fumble.Same may go for Shaw as i mentioned before. The thing that is hurting this team most is youth...by youth i'm meaning lack of leadership. We have no true leaders like we have had in the past.None of this is coaching. In fact most are issues are not coaching.Coaches since pee wee football tell you to put the ball in the hand closest to the sideline yet our players fail to do this, resulting in fumbles.Coaches can't help what the players do on the field.Considering Minor fumbles too much(has through his career) and Brown is always hurt McGuffie and Shaw should be the only RB's getting carries, with Grady on short yardage situations.I like the usage of underclassmen for two reasons 1) get much needed experience to players that matter(they will be there for a while when the juniors/seniors will not) and 2) it helps with recruiting.Young kids see they can come in and start immediately and they like that idea.Trust me when i say this the team isn't that bad quit looking at the W's and L's we have been one play here and there away from having a winning record. We had some over thrown WR's that were wide open in the Utah game, too many turnovers vs ND, Illinois was maybe just a straight up loss, and toledo was a win had Threet not thrown a pick 6 and maybe had he not got hurt could have won it for us...Sheridan i will say is just bad.

Samantha, what happened to your article about the new Michigan team in which you state Michigan fans need to stand tall. Doesn't sound like you are standing tall at all. I'm not sold on Rich Rod yet, but he's the coach and needs to be given a chance to succeed. The Toledo game was physically disgusting to watch, but I'll venture to say that right now is possibly the most exciting time for Michigan football since you were born. This is where greatness comes from. This is the heart of the game. This is what makes football more than just a game, but a sport full of passion and loyalty. What I speak of is that moment where a team and a coaching staff show what they are really made of. Where their backs are against the wall and they now have to fight their way out. I'll say this, I don't care how many games they win this year. All I want to see is intensity, physicality, and a team that plays like they are pissed off.
Don't give up Samantha. You might not like Rich Rod, but I suggest you be patient and see what he does when his back's against the wall. He might show you something special. I really hope he does.

I know I shouldn't give up. I was just venting. I was excited to see Rich Rod announced as coach last year. I'm just used to Michigan football having a winning record and not looking so sloppy. One thing Lloyd was good at was keeping our guys disciplined. We've had some dumb penalties by being undisciplined. We do need leadership and guys to play their hearts out. I want us to get back to a bowl game. 2-4 is not good, especially with Penn State, MSU, and OSU coming up. Our active bowl streak is impressive and I don't want to see it die. Thanks for the comment!

Samantha u say Carr always had disciplined teams but so does RR. With a starting line up loaded with sophmores and freshman Michigan currently ranks 37th in fewest penalties...not too bad for such a young team. We have 32 penalties for 286 yards which is only 5.33 penalties per game and 47.67 penalty ypg. Could be much worse. For such a young squad that's good discipline.

Duh...they are ALL young! Freshmmen, Sophomores. I just hope that Sam does'nt get hurt as the teams get bigger and stronger. He's too small...no fumbles or not. When he bulks up more and gets stronger he will be fine. When a QB comes in that can throw T. Clemons won't struggle trying to catch uncatchable passes. (Odoms is not tall enough, his WR career is limited) Clemons needs more playing time to become comfortable at his job. When all the pieces of the puzzle are put into place it will be a good thing. I agree with you Chris, I would like to see the same thing. Play hard (win or lose) or watch from the stands.
from about 1 month ago
RR wants smaller guys in the slot i'm not even sure as to why Clemmons is in the slot to begin with he needs to sit out on the outside and serve as a possesion WR down in the redzone, considering his size.
