Dear Bill Cowher,

Jerry Jones want to talk to you. Maybe I am just speculating, and a better statement may have been that Jerry Jones ought to be talking to you about taking the reigns of the Dallas Cowboys.

I am not sure what Jones’ plans are for the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL, Jason Garrett, but he might have to go so the Cowboys can pay you the most money for a coach in the NFL.

Wade Phillips should be fired. Yes, I know the Cowboys are 4-2 and both losses were very close games, but so have all but one of the wins. The Dallas Cowboys are not a mentally strong game.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely Jones will fire Wade Phillips in midseason, unless the team goes on a long losing streak. However, it is pretty clear the Cowboys won’t be going far in the playoffs baring some miracle turnaround, so the Cowboys would like to hear from you.

Are you interested in coaching a team with a quarterback who can throw for 300 yards and two touchdowns and still look awful. This is a team with the NFL’s sack leader, but one of the worst secondaries in the league. This is a team with a huge offensive line who plays pretty small at times.

Are you interested, Bill?

Sincerely

The Landry Hat

  1. Cowher's not going to Dallas.

  2. Gee, that was some insight.

  3. Eek, as a lifelong Steelers fan I'd hate to see Bill go to the hated Cowboys!!! Honestly, I don't think Cowher would be a good fit in Dallas for a couple very fundamental reasons. One, he likes players like Jerome Bettis and Hines Ward...he would immediately clash with Jones over his signing players like TO, Pacman, and Tank Johnson. (Chad Johnson next?) He is known as a players coach so I think he can handle the Dallas locker room...but no without growing pains.

Second, Cowher isn't going to a team unless he has power. He is not going to walk into a situation where an owner like Jones is going to be able to try and leverage position over him and dictate the flow. Cowher will want a big say in who gets drafted and unlike the situation in Oakland...he doesn't want a phone to ring during the game telling him to go deep (as accused of Al Davis by Warren Sapp.) I think Jones is too much of a "spotlight" owner for Cowhers liking...but crazier things have happened.

Now...a couple reasons why Cowher may want to go to Dallas. Winning tradition, owner who will pay him the big bucks, owner who will go after elite players, team already has pieces in place to win. Just some thoughts.

  4. I have to agree that as evidenced by The Tuna leaving that Jerry Jones has to be in charge. He told Parcells that it was his team, but in the end Jones could not help himself. That is OK if the owner wants to call the shots, but then you are stuck with a weak coach like Phillips who will accept being a "yes man" to the owner. If and when Cowher comes back it will be with an organization that will give him alot of control, a GM/Coach position. That will not happen in Dallas because Jerry is not going to fire himself from the GM position anytime soon.

  5. Cowher is not going to coach any NFL team in the next 3 years, however, I do see a good college team that may attract him....

  6. Ben, The Tuna seemed to quell Jerry Jones, and I'm sure Cowher would as well.

And to the author: I'm sorry, but isn't it week 6? How great did the Giants look to start out last year? Don't sit there and speculate about the playoffs man, it's not the time to do it.

  7. Cowher is going to the Browns after Romeo gets the boot.
