  1. our rankings our pretty close! see shake up in bcs rankings article. my way most popular article to date. almost 1800 reads im stoked!!! i have alabama #1 texas #2 Penn state number 3 oklahoma #4 florida #5 Texax tech # 6 am i overlooking georgia?? i just don t think they as as strong as a lot of other teams Oklahoma state has to play oklahoma and texas then we will see if they are still there! right now noway are they in top ten! i wish ball state would play a high ranked team to see how good they really are!!! same as boise state. same as byu. they won t rise very high because of weak conferences. they need to get some high ranking schools on their agenda early in the season to get to a higher ranking!! play some big 10 pac 10 big 12 or sec games to measure up!!! thomas moreland aka nfl mikee

    1. Thanks for the comment, I think Georgia has looked good and is good, but I may be wrong.

  2. Nice rankings, but where are you getting the percentage in parenthesis from?

    1. I made them up...SHHHH! I always see them in the BCS rankings, so it makes it look more professional. I also graded them out of 100% based out of my style of ranking, (in italics in the article).

    2. C'mon now... you can't say SHHHH when you write it down! ha ha...

    3. Yeah...probably should've said something else. At least I have a formula of where I get these numbers...my own unique formula, which is somewhat biased towards PSU and Big 10 teams and against WAC and Big East teams.

  3. how do you figure any of this?

    1. Opinionated, statistics, and performance. Maybe slightly biased.

  4. I am interested in how you did your calculations. Are you using any statistical modeling software that the pros do in order to calculate strength of opponents and such? Very interesting.

    1. Opinionated, statistics, and performance. Maybe slightly biased. Records and performance and a few other things go into my calculations and that's how I determine it.

  5. I think the general consensus is that your making up of numbers is misleading. Being a statistics guy, I would prefer to come up with a formula similar to the true BCS formula to try to model this. Putting the numbers there just makes it seem like this is a mathematical article when it is really an opinion article. Can't argue with the opinions though.

    1. It isn't really making them up, I just rate them on a scale from one to 1,000 based on record, performance, strength of schedule, and some other things like conference strength and big wins.

    2. It is also not like I spend hours calculating, I just look at each team in these issues and give them a grade. No team will get 1.000 unless they are #1 and the only undefeated team. I also rank some teams on how they match up against other teams, and that's why some are tied.

This is somewhat biased having PSU at 2, where most would argue three, and is partially opinionated, but my numbers are just not numbers out of nowhere. I said I made them up because I use my own, somewhat opinionated and complicated, formula to calculate what I think are accurate percentages out of 1,000 for each team.

    3. In a general sense I think his list is pretty fair. Saturday night I felt that PSU did deserve the #2 slot after putting on an outstanding performance at Camp Randall, beating the spread by 6 touchdowns, a week after WISC lost by 3 to #12 OSU. That's a good indicator that a team was under-rated.

So I can see the logic in giving Penn State the #2 spot. Also of note, Bama and Texas have pretty strong machups coming up in the next few weeks, and I am certain that both of those teams will not go undefeated.

Regardless, you will be seeing PSU move up in the polls these next few weeks.

  6. Judging from the poll results it looks like there are a lot of PSU believers/fans on Bleacher Report. WE ARE PENN STATE!!!

    1. Maybe people finally realized that PSU is for real.

  7. I do no calculations at all lol i hate math mine are cerebal ratings pretty close to reality though! all observation! hell with who you play , run the table in any year your pretty good! when your good ,pponents rise up and play better. when im with a scratch golfer, i break 80 lol. thomas

    1. I know what you mean. When I'm with a scratch golfer, I still suck. Although I do have a pretty nice drive. We are the team to beat now, and everyone we play is after us.

  8. I gotta think USC should be ahead of BYU.

BYUs biggest game so far was against UW and barely won.

A top MWC team barely beat a bottom-dwelling Pac team. Non-BCS conference contenders are a joke.

    1. Unlike what Pete Carroll says, the Pac 10 isn't ridiculously hard. They are the weakest BCS conference besides the Big East. The MWC, as a whole, has been beating up on the Pac 10. Until USC or the rest of the Pac 10 can really prove themselves, USC will not move up far just because they are media darlings. I give credit to BYU for performing at a high level.

    2. This whole thing about MWC beating up on the Pac is rediculous.

BYU beat UW and UCLA prolly the 8th and 9th teams in the conference
Utah barely got away from OSU a middle of the road Pac team

These are the two best MWC teams that are in the question for BCS title game and there claims to fame are beating low level Pac-10 teams.

Do you really think BYU could beat USC?

You can't say the Mountain West is even close to the level of the Pac-10 until you put your big dogs (BYU and Utah) straight up against the best in the Pac (USC and Cal)

    3. ps.

And how is a win against Ohio State and Virginia not proving themselves?

Does BYU have a bigger win than USC over Ohio State.

Ohio State isn't the best in the Big-10 obviously but they are way better than UCLA or UW or TCU

    4. Ohio State is inconsistent, and have shown signs of bad offense against a lowly Purdue team. Ohio State is not that good. I will give credit to USC for having won those big games, but record also counts in my polls too. USC was upset by a middle of the road Oregon State team, while Utah beat them, even though Utah is further down in my rankings...and that's because they barely beat Michigan, and their schedule hasn't been tough at all.

Virginia is not a big win. They are bi-polar, just like Maryland, Clemson, and many other teams that are overrated or just bi-polar. Also, BYU is a very good team, and just because they play in a non-BCS conference doesn't mean they can't compete with and win against the big boys.

Also, I wouldn't say that Ohio State is better than TCU just yet. Also, USC being dominated by Oregon State doesn't help their ranking. And just in case you didn't see the game, the score was much closer than the game actually was.

Facts are facts, though. The MWC has like 10 wins and no losses over Pac 10 teams. Even some of the middle of the road MWC teams could beat some Pac 10 teams, and all the Big East teams. USC may move up, but it may be hard with their conference being so weak. That is why Pitt and South Florida probably have no chance at cracking the Top 10 this year.

PSU doesn't have the strongest conference, but they have proven themselves in dominant wins over Oregon State, Wisconsin, and Illinois. All their other wins were dominant, but those were against teams like Temple and Syracuse. PSU is probably the best team in the Nation.

The Big 12 is strong and so is the SEC, and that's why performing there gets you big points. I can see USC moving up to as far as #4 or #3, if teams keep losing and they keep winning, but they have to be more dominant, although the 28-0 was fine, but in other games they will have to be.

Also, BYU could definitely beat Cal, and would have a good game against USC and that inconsistent, turnover prone offense. Utah could possibly keep it close with USC, and could probably beat Cal.
