Plagued by mediocrity and the inability to recruit players at Notre Dame and Washington, Ty Willingham has finally announced his resignation after Washington's annihilation by the Irish. Willingham states that he is resigning, but will coach the remainder of the season.
In their last game, the Huskies managed just 55 yards of total offense before the Irish substituted their entire Defense against Washington. Before the final drive, the Huskies managed less than nine first downs and failed to cross midfield.
The question, now, is whether the media will berate the Husky athletic program as a racist organization as it berated the Irish when they fired Willingham and subsequently hired Charlie Weis. Weis has 11 wins in 14 attempts against the PAC-10 as Irish head coach, while Willingham on has 9 wins in 30 attempts.

Weis played the bottom of the Pac 10. Any time he played the top (USC) he got his large posterior handed to him. Willingham had no choice - he got the full Pac 10 each year.
Ty's a bad coach, let's not turn this into any kind of endorsement of Weis - another bad coach.

i think Weis enjoyed more than 55 yards total offense against the top tier of the Pac X... and the Irish are no where near that caliber yet.
Ty is not a bad coach... he's an absolutely incompetent, horrible, embarrassing coach.

Willingham was actually fired. He did not resign. I watched the press conference a few minutes ago on Washington's site.

There is a difference between being forced out and being fired. It has to do with receiving benefits versus not receiving benefits, etc. Yes, it wasn't Ty's choice, but he resigned. He wasn't fired in the technical sense.

Ty was just not getting it done at Washington. As a Ducks fan, I loved Ty because he made Washington horrible and helped us get a 5 game winning streak going against them. I do think he is a great person and probably will find a place where his system is better suited. I just hope Washington will make another bad coaching decision at the end of the season.

OH my arrogant fool, ND failed to give Ty a four year cycle to get all of his recruits in place to show that he could win. Judging by the boosters at ND it appears that the inmates run the asylum and forced him out in a way that no other coach was let go in ND history.
Keep in mind how long did Bob Davie was coach and had they kept him, they might still be winning. The assertion that TY was given a program equal with the reputation that ND has is a foolish argument because both schools are not equal. However, they are getting much more equal with Weis at the helm. Ty at UW was given a full cycle and he failed, and that is fair to let him go.
The reason that Ty was hired was for a racial dynamic of trying to attract the top black recruits that have alluded the program since ESPN covers most games on TV. The AD was thinking when they hired him that his race would help lore the talent but the school, students, boosters rejected this notion and cut him loose and that was a racially motivated fire situation.
