Top Five Players For Liverpool

Benjamin RogersAnalyst IOctober 27, 2008

It's the third issue of the Top Five series, and this time I look at Liverpool FC.

The competition works like this: the players will be of my decision, but any players that could be added can be sent by comments from the viewers of the article.

I'll do a poll every issue to see who is the most popular player from each club, then at the end of the long article series, I will put all the top names into one big league article.

After I've gathered the favorite players from each league, I will put them into the end article to find out who the most popular player is overall.

I will try not to just include Europe in the competition but also include some of the other major clubs from around the world as well.

The leagues I will look at will be the Premier League, Ligue 1, Serie A, Bundesliga, LFP, MLS, Brazilian League, A-League, Portuguese League, and the Dutch League.

In the first two issues, we looked at Arsenal and Manchester United and both of the articles had people reading and voting. Fabregas won the Arsenal vote with a giant 69 percent out of 260 votes and Wayne Rooney has won the Manchester United vote with 41.4 percent of the 232 votes cast.

So without further ado, let's start the Liverpool vote.

No player has been ranked and the list is not in any particular order.

Top Five

Name: Fernando Torres

Position: Striker

Age: 24

Fernando Torres is the striker among strikers from not only the Liverpool and Spanish teams but he is also one of the world's best strikers. Every team in the world would value Torres' goal haul every season.

Name: Steven Gerrard

Position: Midfielder

Age: 28

Captain of Liverpool and a real gentleman, one of the best players and men in the Premier league. It seems every goal he scores saves Liverpool from defeat or makes them the best of the best. Without Gerrard, Liverpool would not be where they are today and probably would not have won a certain night in Istanbul. A true future legend.

Name: Jamie Carragher

Position: Centre Back

Age: 30

When I think of Carragher, I think of the most important value a player can give to a team and that's loyalty. It's not just his loyalty that keeps him at Liverpool, but his grit and determination to win every ball, tackle and pass. Again, just like Gerrard, a future legend.

Name: Xabi Alonso

Position: Centre Midfielder

Age: 26

Alonso is the dark horse of Liverpool FC and is always popping up with a fatal goal here and then. His presence on the field, partnered with Gerrard, is one of the Premier League's best centre midfield partnerships. Many of the world's elite are eyeing this player.

Name: Dirk Kuyt

Position: Striker, Winger

Age: 28

Kuyt may be the weaker of the top five, but his ability of getting goals when you don't expect it is the reason he makes the list. He is not always the hotshot he can be but when he scores a goal, it always seems to count well for Liverpool.

Well, the Liverpool list is done, I'll be back with the next team in the series in a day or two.

If you have any suggestions for who you think should be in the top five, then please feel free to leave a comment, or if you just want to vote for one of the five, then please get voting.

As always, hope you enjoy the article.
