World Football, EPL, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Preview/Prediction

On Wednesday night at eight o'clock, Liverpool entertain Portsmouth on home soil.

With the excitement of beating Chelsea on Sunday still fresh in the mind, there is a lot of talk around Anfield about not getting too carried away as the table leaders build up to the mid-week game.

Jamie Carragher has insisted that as Liverpool sit top of the table, they must not get caught up in the hysteria of the win at Stamford Bridge at the weekend; which saw the Reds move three points clear of their title rivals Chelsea.

Liverpool must now stay focused for the next game, and concentrate on winning another three points to strengthen their position as league leaders.

"We're not going to get too carried away—we're Liverpool," said Carragher. "Don't get me wrong, we're delighted with the win but we're not getting carried away at being top of the league after nine games.''

Portsmouth are currently in seventh place, only one point behind the champions Manchester United, who have a game in hand against Fulham to be played later on in the campaign.

Portsmouth take on the Premier League leaders at Anfield and it will be an interesting match to watch, as it is Liverpool's first game since moving in to the top position on Sunday.

What team will take home the three points available?

Will Liverpool remain the only team unbeaten this season?

Will a defeat to Portsmouth make the points Liverpool collected on Sunday worthless?

All questions will be answered on Wednesday night.

  1. Nice Preview Rosie, I voted for Liverpool to win as i think we have the confidence and momentum to carry us thru.

I think portsmouth will be a very dificult game as they still have a very good , dangerous team, even with out Harry as manager.

Tony adams has been named as the new manager as of today.

    1. Thanks for commenting Jamie,
I agree that it will be a hard game for Liverpool, but i believe we can still win.

  2. nice preview rosie. i can't really see anything but a liverpool win on wednesday. portsmouth are good but liverpool are in top form at the moment.

    1. thanks for you comment yoosof, and yeah same, i can only see liverpool winning

  3. These are the type of games that we have to win to prove we belong at the top of the table. Every team can raise their game to play a "big" club, it's games against the lesser opponents that prove your worth.
Portsmouth will come to Anfield to try and take the sting out the match and hope to nick a point. We have to break em down and get a couple of early goals.

    Nice preview!!

    1. completely agree with you gary, thanks for the comment

  4. looking at the current poll result, im guessing that EVVERYONE thinks Liverpool are gonna win the game tomorrow night.

  5. I'm pretty confident that Liverpool can win tonight..but personally I'm a bit cautious about this game...liverpool often experience a "post good-result" syndrome...you know...good win (big margin), or big oppponents....then draw with lesser team...
I'm really hoping this will not be the case tonight...
I'm wondering whether rafa gonna gives Babel a chance to start tonight...

    1. thanks for your comment, yes like when liverpool beat man utd and then drew the next game against stoke
