Because only GM Pat Gillick had the fortitude to pick a player like Jayson Werth off the scrap heap when no one else wanted him.

Because they know that just because you're practically middle aged doesn't mean you're washed up. Age is but a number to Jamie Moyer.

Because the team not only has talent...it has heart!

Because they have leadership...hello Jimmy Rollins.

Because they have prodigious power...hello Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Pat Burrell.

Because they have one of the finest young pitchers in all of baseball in Cole Hamels.

Because Manager Charlie Manuel never allowed them to give up hope and remained calm enough to guide them to victory.

Because closer Brad Lidge kept up his perfect pace from the regular season throughout the postseason.

Because Shane Victorino is the Flyin' Hawaiian!

Because guys like Feliz, Bruntlett, Jenklns, and Ruiz hit well over .300 in the series.

Because J.C. Romero was lights out again, winning two games and giving up no runs.

Because Joe Blanton pitched so well.

Because those are some damn good cheesesteaks.

Because they won four out of five games against the best the supposedly stronger American League had to offer.

And most of all, because it had been 28 years and the fans of Philadelphia deserved it, come to think of it.

  2. I really didn't like it when some of the philly players were boo'd during the ceremony

    1. Who was booed? You mean, at home or when they were in Tampa?

    2. It was a joke, a Philly gag. There was rumors going around that Phillies fans would try to keep their tradition and reputation alive. The players got it.

  3. OK LJ, shows my ignorance. Thanks.
