Guard Gabe York has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, according to Scout.com (h/t SportingNews.com). York is a pure scorer and underrated as far as athletic ability is concerned.
At 6’1", 170 pounds, York is a quick player who recently starting making the transition from shooting guard to the point. ESPN has York 33rd overall. Here is what the "strengths" section of their scouting report says:
“He's one of the most prolific jump shooters in the country. He gets great lift on his shot and his range extends to 25-feet. In terms of finishing in transition, he is exceptional. He has excellent body control finishing in the paint area and he has had a number of highlight reel dunks in traffic throughout his young career. He has become less selfish with his shot selection, but York is a born scorer. His jump shot is smooth; especially when his feet are set and he can explode in transition-has had a number of high-level finishes in his young career.”
Living in California, Gabe committing to Arizona was important because he wants his family and friends to be able to come and watch him play.
"I just feel like it’s going to be a really great fit," York told Scout.com. "The main reason I picked Arizona is because it’s close to home and, thinking about it, I really want to be close to my mom, and all my other family members can come watch me."
In the end Gabe chose 'Zona over Marquette, Notre Dame, Louisville and Washington.
