Liverpool FC Transfer Rumours: Alberto Aquilani Edges Closer to AC Milan

Seria A giants AC Milan seemed to have openly admitted interest in Liverpool's playmaker Alberto Aquilani.

After his move to Florentina was reportedly put on hold, AC Milan started showing interest. This time Aquaman would be leaving the Merseyside club permanently if the deal falls through, as a loan move now seems improbable.

Milan lost out on Andrea Pirlo to Juventus and are now looking for a suitable replacement. Aquilani seems to suit their needs. He is a top player and he will also come quite cheap.

AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani has reportedly confirmed that they are interested in Aquilani.

"We could talk about Aquilani," said Galliani to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t goal.com). "He’s a midfielder with the characteristics that we are looking for so, like with other players in his role, he could be of interest.”

However, Florentina head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic told La Repubblica that a deal could still go through:

“Aquilani deal up in smoke? From now until the end of the market there is still plenty of time, let’s not lose hope. The club, myself and director of sport Pantaleo Corvino have clear ideas and we know exactly what to do," stated Mihajlovic (h/t goal.com).

Meanwhile, there have been multiple fan articles making rounds about the Internet from Liverpool fans in support of Alberto Aquilani.

Fans seem to have taken a liking to the Italian, after a good loan spell and preseason. Ever since the speculation of him moving to Florentina came up, fans have been fighting on his behalf.

Now that Steven Gerrard is out injured until at least September, Aquilani's services will be extremely valuable to Liverpool.
