Having secured a valuable draw with Manchester United in the Champions League and continuing their domestic dominance with victory over Motherwell at the weekend, the cracks in the Bhoys’ forward-line may have been papered over in recent weeks, but they are still very much a cause for concern at Parkhead.

Celtic have been severely hamstrung in attack, deprived of the services of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Georgios Samaras and Chris Killen through injury, forcing Strachan to turn to rookie Cillian Sheridan to add height to the attack.

In desperate need of fresh blood up top, Europe’s most in-form striker, Austrian Marc Janko, has been targetted as a possible new recruit for the Scottish champions.

But the race for Janko is likely to come from many clubs, such is the players’ form. He has scored 22 goals in 17 appearances so far this campaign for Red Bull Salzburg, the striker revelling in an extended goal-scoring purple patch. This form has peaked in the last four games, where Janko has hit the back of the net ten times to raise his profile further.

Competition for the forward is fierce however, with Hertha Berlin reportedly having sent their chief scout to scope out the 25-year-old as he hit a hat-trick in Friday’s 5-1 win over Austria Vienna.

Even though there will be some observers who will look to temper the hype around Janko, after all, the Austian T-Mobile Bundesliga is hardly one of Europe’s top divisions. Yet there is plenty about Janko which clubs can get excited about. Standing 6'3" tall, the forward has a physical presence able to ruffle up defences, and with two good feet, Janko has the technique to play at a higher level.

Video evidence of Janko can be seen here.
