The Calgary Flames try to get a win under their belt tonight as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary. The Flames haven't put one in the win column since last Thursday night against the Nashville Predators. The win could have given their fans a heart attack, as they were up 6-3 going into the third period, finishing with a final score of 7-6.
The last two games have been disappointments for the Flames, but there is still hope as they face the Maple Leafs tonight. Calgary needs to create some offense tonight. While only scoring two goals in their last two games, production off the powerplay would be a key benefit as well.
Jarome Iginla has been very consistent for the Flames. Many of Calgary’s top players have been producing, but it would be nice to see guys like Craig Conroy and Matthew Lombardi getting into the mix more often. Lombardi is out with a shoulder injury unfortunately and has missed nine games because of it, so it will be a lot better when he is a healthy scratch and gets back into the lineup.

The Flames will need to keep looking to Jarome Iginla, Michael Cammalleri, and Todd Bertuzzi for the offense they need. On the back end they need steady goaltending from Mikka Kipprusoff if they expect to have a successful second half of November.
Calgary has been known to be an up-and-down team in the past, but this season they have great potential to be different. As the Flames won six straight games closing off the month of October and beginning the month of November, they are primarily seen as a strong team.
Finally, it seems like the Flames have filled the spot they have been missing for the last few seasons: secondary scoring. Adding the likes of Cammalleri and Bertuzzi has and will give the Flames the offensive boost they have been missing for so long. Jarome Iginla is always a steady scorer, but has been a slow starter in past seasons. (This is not the case in the 2008-2009 season, however.)
With the depth of the team this year and the scoring power they have gained, the Flames are a force to reckon with this season and come April they may be a prime cup-contender.
