It's been 3 long years since an AHL franchise has called St.John's Newfoundland, Canada it's home, and it seems the city is trying it's hardest to get a team back.
With a brand new arena, able to hold 6000 people left vacant for 40 plus more nights this winter just about every hockey fan in the St.John's area would open an AHL team back with open arms. However, in order to get a team to call it's home St.John's once again, the city needs to take a few steps in persuading the AHL that St.John's can still host a team.
We seen the first step early this pre-season, when Mile One Centre hosted the 'Iceberg Cup'; a three team mini-tournament involving the Toronto Marlies, Manitoba Moose, and Hamilton Bulldogs. The amount of ticketts sold for all four games exceeded expectations, and it left everybody craving more hockey.

So, on Wednesday, November 12th we will see the second step in the process of getting an AHL team to play out of St.John's. This time Mile One Centre will host an actual Regular-Season AHL game between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (affiliate of the New York Islanders) and the Bignhamptom Senators (affiliate of the Ottawa Senators).
The game is schedualed for a Binghamptom home game, Binghampton is also rumered to be a franchise in trouble. The Sound Tigers will enter the Wednesday night contest in first overall in the East division with 22 points, while the Senators will enter the contest just 6 points back from the Tigers, which put them in third place in the East division.
Game time is 7:00 O'clock Newfoundland Standard Time.
This should be a great night of hockey action in St.John's, and it will definitely be interesting to see if St.John's does in fact get another team.
