College Football, Big 12 Football, Nebraska Huskers Football, Preview/Prediction

What a game!  After that debacle against Oklahoma, to say we needed that one would have been a massive understatement.  And you know what—a Big 12 title game appearance still isn't out of the question.  Currently we sit in second place in the North (3-3) one game behind Missouri (4-2).

Now here are some predictions for this week's upcoming games.

Nebraska vs. Kansas State

Manhattan is always a tough place to play, no matter how K-State is doing.  Again, the outcome depends on what Husker team shows up.  Black Shirts were handed out this week in practice, so the defense should be inspired to play hard.  This game will hinge on the performance of our offense and the play calling of Shawn Watson.

Final Score: Nebraska 34, Kansas State 24

South Carolina vs. Florida

NEVER count out the Ol' Ball Coach.  The environment in the swamp should have no effect on Spurrier and his boys.  Spurrier is drawing on the fact that Florida already lost to Ole Miss at home to motivate his team.  This one is close.  Don't be surprised if the Gamecocks pull off the shocker.

Final Score: Florida 31, South Carolina 28

Missouri vs. Iowa State

Husker fans should be pulling for the Cyclones in this one.  Missouri and Kansas wins mean that Kansas and Missouri play for the North Division title next week and Nebraska is eliminated from contention. This is where it gets confusing like baseball, so follow closely: If Kansas and Nebraska lose this week and Missouri wins, Missouri wins the North.

However, if Missouri loses this week and Nebraska and Kansas (not likely—Kansas plays Texas this week) win, then it sets up this situation: Missouri and Kansas play next week as well as Nebraska and Colorado. If Missouri wins they win the North, and if Kansas wins and Nebraska loses, Kansas wins the North, but if Kansas and Nebraska win, Nebraska wins the North.

It's all very confusing.  But none of this matters because Missouri wins going away.

Final Score: Missouri 41, Iowa State 3

Kansas vs. Texas

Kansas is a good football team.  They are no longer a doormat in the Big 12.  However, they don't have enough to beat a Texas team on a mission to win a National title.  Kansas puts up a fight, but in the end they just don't have enough in the tank.

Final Score: Texas 41, Kansas 28

(Just for fun) Jets vs. Patriots

Not even Tom Brady would make a difference in the Patriots' season this year.  They are old on defense and too young on offense.  The balance of power in the AFC East is literally on the line in this one.  I don't think it's a stretch to say that the winner of this one takes the division.

A game like this has Brett Favre's name written all over it.  This one will be epic—probably an instant classic.

That being said, the Patriots could put all doubt to rest if they dominate in this one.  But I don't see that happening.  In fact, I see the balance of power at least for this year shifting.

Final Score: Jets 41, Patriots 38

  1. Wow, your Pats/Jets prediction was ridiculously close to what actually happened.

I agree with the rest of your picks. Great work.
