Penn State Football, USC Football, NCAA Football, Editorial

I might as well say this before uttering another syllable; I grew up about a half hour away from University Park, better known as State College, PA. I grew up watching Big Ten football, more to the point, Penn State.

That said, I can no longer remain silent about the travesty that is happening in college football: the complete disrespect of Big Ten football.

I am sick and tired of hearing about how bad the Big Ten is. It's absolutely ridiculous. Everyone saw the evil empire (OSU) lose in two straight national title games to SEC teams. Granted, the SEC is a very powerful and successful conference; hence, this is why the SEC, Big 12, Pac-10, ACC, and Big Ten are the power conferences.

Looking at this year in particular, I find myself getting more and more angry at the commentators and know-it-alls in college football. All I hear about is how bad the Big Ten is.

This is unacceptable to me, especially when I look at the team the experts say is one of the best teams in the country, USC. I have been saying for years how over-hyped the Pac-10 is; yet, no one ever says anything about that when the topic of USC comes up.

If the top five teams of the Pac-10 and Big Ten went head to head, the Big Ten would hold the winning record.

One last little thing, Penn State defeated Oregon State by 31 points in Happy Valley. This is the team that has a chance of holding big, bad USC out of the conference title... so much for the highly hyped team which gets praised for playing scrubs.

  1. I guess if SC gets to the Rose Bowl we'll find out who the better team is.

  2. have to win the Pac-10 first, which if Oregon State wins out; they win the Pac-10

  3. usc and penn st have two common opponents... how come you didn't mention the other one? Oh because that might make USC look a little better? Where was Penn St last year when Ohio St ran the pac 10 and got killed? How about when Illinois was the next best team and got demolished by USC in the Rose Bowl???

USC is so overrated they have won 2 titles past 5 seasons and finished in the top 5 nearly every year... what's Penn St done? Talk more crap Corry... I bet youw ere one to hype up Penn st and say they'd win it all... undefeated. I have no issues with you loving your nittany lions but don't sit there and bash one of the best programs ever...it just makes you look uneducated.

    1. I don't know if Penn State would have won it all. We'll never get the chance now. They messed up, I'm just tired of hearing how bad the Big Ten is when the Pac-10 is easily as bad if not worse. By the way, speaking of looking uneducated, you neglect to mention that Ohio State didn't play Pryor as much, or have their best running back in the game against Ohio State. What's your excuse for the Oregon State game? Kinda the same for the Stanford game last year right?

    2. Jonny, no offense to USC, but we beat both opponents that we shared, and you went 1-1. It doesn't matter the score, as long as you win. Also, USC is not one of the best programs ever. They recently have been a great program, going slightly downhill the last two years, the key word there being slightly. Traditionally, other than USC vs. ND moments, USC hasn't been successful in long periods, like the past 5 years. They have smaller spurts. They are not one of the great traditional programs, but are a great program.

  4. If Orgon State and USC both win out theyre co-champs. The Rose Bowl berth is determined by tie-breakers and for that reason OSU would go. I would prefer OSU to win out and USC get an at-large bid to play a big 12 or sec team. If they play and beat Penn State theyll just get told well its only the big 10. I dont agree with that but its what everyone will say.

    1. Penn State has nothing to prove against Oregon State. We already beat them by 31. If we play them and win, we gain nothing, and we wouldn't gain anything even if we didn't already play them because the Pac 10 is the weakest major conference, battling for last with the Big East. Look at your teams, WSU, Washington, Stanford, Arizona State, and UCLA are awful. Cal, Arizona, Oregon, and Oregon State are ranging from pretty bad to mediocre, and USC is pretty good.
