It's definitely a rumor that is gaining alot of steam since it was announced, that's for sure!
Yesterday on ESPN, Scott Burnside said that Rangers GM Glen Sather and former Ducks GM Brian Burke have been spending a ton of time together and recently just came back from a hunting trip.
This is fueling speculation that Sather, 65, is ready to finally step down as the general manager of our Broadway Blueshirts and give the job to his good friend Burke, 53.
Slats has been a success in his career and really what more for him is there to do, except sign Michal Rozsival to a horrible contract.
Burke, in my eyes, was instrumental in signing great players for Vancouver that shaped their team to what it is now and for winnnig a Stanley Cup in Anaheim with his expertise.
Should this happen I think it would be a warm welcome to Ranger fans who have grown tired of Slats, but than again.... it is just a rumor right?

I don't think Sather is going to resign, but I would love to see GM Mark Messier.

He didn't really help Anaheim win, that was more Bryan Murray who really recruited their core of young stars... Burke scares me... some of his bigger moves in Anaheim were acquiring Steve Montador... and Marc-Andre Bergeron. Or how about the trading of Andy McDonald?
If Sather was going to step down, I'd really want Don Maloney back, or even the Rangers to see if they could make a move on Rick Dudley. He's proven to have an eye for young talent. Maybe they could look at a guy in the Detroit or San Jose organization. Those are two teams who are KNOWN for their solid drafting. Nothing's more important these days than that.

Ugh. Stop perpetuating the trendy notion that Bryan Murray constructed the Ducks championship team.
He was responsible for two players—Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He was also responsible for Sergei Fedorov, Vaclav Prospal, Sandis Ozolinsh, Petr Sykora, Keith Carney, Vitaly Vishnevski, and Ruslan Salei. All of them were overpaid, and Burke replaced them with Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Teemu Selanne, Francois Beauchemin, Chris Kunitz (re-claimed), and Sean O'Donnell. Andy McDonald and Dustin Penner were the work of assistant GM Dave McNab.
It was Burke's team, not Murray's. However, all of Burkes moves after the cup season have been bad—or misguided at best. Steve Montador has actually turned out to be a good acquisition, also. Bertuzzi, Morrison, and Schneider (and by extension, Klee and Larssen) are the bad moves.

Also sorry if that comment has a mean-spirited tone. Sometimes it doesn't translate very well on the internet and I don't feel like littering my posts with lols and :) :) :)
