With all the talk about Tommy Tuberville potentially coaching his last home game at Jordan-Hare this weekend, it’s time for Auburn fans to wake up and take a large dose of reality.
Sure, Tuberville has had an extremely disappointing year, falling from a preseason predicted finish atop the SEC West to a season in which the Tigers might be bowl ineligible for the first time since 1999.
Sure, Tuberville fired his offensive coordinator just six games into the season.
But Auburn fans are forgetting a few key facts.
First off, this program wasn’t exactly dominating the SEC West before Tuberville arrived. Critics like to point out how Tuberville has only won one SEC Championship in his tenure at Auburn.
But while he hasn’t won as much hardware as he should have, Tuberville has made Auburn football a constant in the SEC West picture. His teams have been as consistent as any in the SEC since he arrived.
The Tigers have put together multiple nine and 10-win seasons and accomplished perhaps the most impressive feat of any SEC team during this millennium.
Yeah, the Tigers got hosed and left out of the National Championship after their perfect season in 2004, but is that Tuberville’s fault? Absolutely not. Would we be having this conversation now had Tuberville won a BCS National Championship in 2004? Absolutely not.

BUT one thing your forgetting. This is the SEC. There is no where in the country with harder to please fans or admins. To survive in this league you are expected to win and win big or atleast keep your team afloat. Look at Alabama, going through several coachs in 25 years. ITS INSANE but its the SEC.

Yeah, this league is as demanding as any, without a doubt. That's the problem with having a conference so well stocked with top notch coaches. They can't all win and when one of them has a subpar season, you quickly see the fans turn on them. It sure is one hell of a meatgrinder in the SEC. Still, that's where all the mystique and aura of coaching in the SEC comes from. There's a certain challenge inherent in coaching in the SEC that plenty of coaches would love to see if they can meet.

Thats the biggest problem for coachs in the SEC, you will lose until you get on your feet. Theres no doubt. Too many good coachs with good teams. On an average year there are only 2 maybe 3 bad teams in the SEC, usually a mississippi team and Vandy, and 7 or 8 good teams who can go up against most teams in the country and make a game of it if they dont win. THEN you have 2 or 3 GREAT teams this year would be Florida and Bama.

Tuberville has taken the AU program full circle, back to the level he took it over post Terry Bowden. It's in shambles & fallen too low to come back. Real SEC teams don't lose to Vanderbilt, even in rebuilding years. The level at which Auburn is measured should not merely be, did it beat uat. It's time for an entire house cleaning...not only Tuberville but his entire staff.
