The Brazilians were fired up for UFC 134: Rio and their fighters reminded the world who started this whole MMA game or Vale Tudo as it was once known, which literally means “anything goes” in Portuguese.
Tonight’s UFC light heavyweight bout was a long awaited rematch between Maurício Rua and Forrest Griffin, but Rua left no doubt as to who the victor was this time around as he defeated Griffin by TKO at 1:53 of Round 1.
Both fighters showed respect at the opening of the round as they cautiously felt each other out.
As they began to trade, Rua landed a nice uppercut which didn’t seem to faze Griffin much.
Griffin began to loosen up and started to throw a few hard jabs followed by combinations with the hands.
Rua let his hands fly as the two former champions engaged and connected with a big right that rocked the American to the canvas and onto his back into the guard position.
Rua followed him down and dropped confident bombs to the chin of Griffin for a TKO win.
