If we are not going to play him, then trade him. If it was up to me, I would trade Mark DeRosa, along with Sean Marshall or Rich Hill, for a good starting pitcher and then try to pick up Adam Dunn in free agency. That would leave second base for Fontenot.

We have to get this guy (Fontenot) into our everyday lineup. If we can't pick up Dunn or someone like him, then trade Fontenot with Hill or Marshall to Baltimore for Brian Roberts. Either way, we have to get something out of this guy while his stock is high.

  1. Why not start him at 2b and have DeRosa play RF? Oh wait, I forgot - we're stuck playing Fukudome in center (in a platoon) because of his contract. That sucks. Otherwise, you could get a left-handed htting centerfielder and then could afford to play DeRosa in RF. I don't know if Fonty would be a good everyday player but I like what I see in the small sample size so far. I'd play him at second. Thanks for raising the question, good job John.

  2. It would be interesting to see Fontenot as a full time player at 2nd. He was good in small doses but what should be interesting to see how he will perform full time, I say give him a chance. Because obviously Lou has no problem with giving people chances *cough* *cough* (Fukudome)
