In a surprising move, the Dallas Stars have traded away one of their All-Star defensemen, Philippe Boucher, in exchange for a familiar face to the Dallas Stars and member of their 1998-99 Stanley Cup Champion roster, Darryl Sydor.
The trade marks an obvious attempt for the Stars to fix their ailing defense in this early season.
- B/R Ticket Guide
Dallas has stepped up its scoring prowess by adding Mark Parrish, but has still been suffering tremendously on the defensive side of the ice. With Sydor, a notable "stay-at-home" defenseman, the Stars will definitely have added some leverage to their defensive game.
Sydor had not been getting a good amount of playing time in Pittsburgh, and felt he needed to move elsewhere in order to continue playing like he feels he can.
Boucher gives the Penguins a stellar, scoring, defenseman, who is very savvy on special teams.
