We've all tried to make a case for the BCS in our own way. Even with a flawed system, we've had some great games from the result of them. But it's this year that is bound to be the center of controversy even when an outright champion is crowned. So with all the talk about the future of the BCS, which undefeated team will get the proverbial shaft out of this year's BCS Bowls?
Utah Utes (11-0, 7-0 Mountain West)
The Utes have a big game coming up this weekend when they face BYU for the Beehive Boot. It's clear that with this win, they will secure the Mountain West Conference Championship. On paper, they are impressive. But the computer still believes that the Pac-10 is better than the Mountain West...namely USC. Despite the Trojans possibly losing the Pac-10 Conference to Oregon State, they still believe that USC's record is better than Utah's undefeated record.
But the Utes are in what most would call a "powderpuff" conference. With teams like Wyoming (who beat Tennessee a few weeks ago), BYU (who only has one loss this season), TCU (who spent years dominating this conference) and Air Force (who are also bowl bound this season), I think the computer could be...nah! Who am I kidding?! Utah's record is better than USC. And they deserve to be above the Trojans. In regards to "powderpuff" conferences, look no further than the Big Ten Conference.

Decision: Yes
Ball State Cardinals (11-0, 7-0 Mid-American Conference)
The Cardinals are fans of nailbiters. They had a huge shootout a few nights ago against Central Michigan. But the thing that gets me the most is that even with a shot at the MAC Championship, they will still not get the pass into a BCS Bowl. With several teams in the Big XII that are eyeing a BCS bid (Mizzou, Texas, Oklahoma & Texas Tech in particular), it's clear that the computer will look towards them and look over Ball State.
So no matter how good the Cardinals are, and no matter how good their games are, they will suffer the downside of being good...but not good enough.
Decision: Yes
Boise State Broncos (10-0, 6-0 WAC Conference)
Two years ago, an unknown quarterback named Joel Zabransky and a low profile tailback named Ian Johnson shocked the nation and defeated the heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners. Even better, those glory days of yesteryear look to be coming back. The Broncos are undefeated and on the verge of making even more noise this year. And guess who could be the victim of their newest upset?
All the teams in the Big XII Conference should be intimidated by this Boise State team. They all know what they can do. And so does that computer. Which is why the computer will give them what they want: A BCS Bowl. The Broncos are underrated, and they are done being overlooked. But the Big Ten should be worried as well. Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan State all look to be considered contenders for a BCS bid at this moment. And they all should be wary of these Boise State Broncos...because they're coming for a fight.
Decision: No
So the Mountain West and MAC Conferences get denied the right to play, but the WAC Champions will get in? I say all three teams are getting screwed this year.

Big Ten=powderpuff? While this is technically true, the Big 10 is a better conference this year than the PAC 10, which would have made your point better.
Also, please do some research on Ball State. They have 1 close game all year. They do not love nail-biters. They love winning. Just because you watched 1 game against CMU and it was close doesn't mean all their games are nail-biters.
And Boise will get in AFTER Utah, if they are both undefeated.

Utah will not make the cut. Sorry to disappoint you. As much as you wanted to fight about Ball State, they still got one more game against a winning team. So talk to me after they win that one.

"Even with a flawed system, we've had some great games from the result of them."
Ron, it's precisely because we don't have a playoff that we have great games every week from Labor Day on.
Those 3 teams are getting screwed not because of the BCS, but because they play in a 119 team league. Everybody can't be given a chance, especially since there is no balance of power.
The only way to give the little guys a chance is to have a 64 team playoff like they do in basketball, where no team lower than 8th seed has ever won. Why ruin the regular season just to give these teams a false hope?

The MWC has a legit argument to being the 3rd best conference this year. They will most likely end the season with 3 teams with 10 wins and and Air Force perhaps could get 10 if they win out.
They would have 3 or 4 ranked in the top 25 at years end.

My apologies. I'm a Gators fan, and my kid was telling me about some guy named Joel. My bad. Didn't mean to twist your wires.

FYI...TCU is a very good team, but has not dominated the MWC. TCU won the title in 2005 and BYU won it 2006 and 2007. Utah may win it in 2008, unless it loses and TCU wins. Then, three would share the title. That makes it BYU-3, TCU-2, and Utah-1. Dominate would be TCU winning every year since joining the league in 2005.
MWC is better than Pac-10 (besides USC), Big East and ACC this year. The powers that be though will make sure the big 6 keep their automatics and not share the money in the future. Non-BCS conferences have to share the entire BCS allotment, while the BCS conferences get their own share-twice as much as what is shared among the five non-BCS. President and Commissioners talk about student-athlete wellness and yet, they disadvantage 55 teams and show they don;t believe in equality.

Not sure how Utah would get the shaft when they are the highest ranked non bcs conference champion. Boise will get the shaft and Utah will get the bid.
