To play for Arsenal football club is an honour, and every Arsenal player needs to remember this regardless of whether they are involved in the William Gallas affair or not.
Since as long as I can remember, I've always watched Arsenal on TV and live at Highbury and now the Emirates. At times, I've had to struggle financially just to buy a match ticket and had to travel in the cold, rain, and even snow just to watch our Arsenal play. I’m sure im not the only one.
Any player or person who thinks he is bigger than the club should either get a new attitude or leave the club now. I've watched terrific players like Tony Adams, Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, and, of course, Thierry Henry, but none of them were ever bigger than Arsenal FC and no one is ever likely to be.
Gallas was very foolish to go public, as everyone knows things like this should be kept internal. Only Arsene Wenger, whom we trust and love, can tell you what will happen to Gallas. If Gallas gets his head in the right place and comes back a better player, I would be willing to forgive and forget
because I want what is best for Arsenal Football Club.Perhaps captaincy was not right for Gallas; that’s not the fault of anyone, including Gallas himself. Sometimes, in life, you have to try something new, and if you give it your all and do not succeed, you have to tell yourself "maybe this is not for me" and try something else.
At Chelsea, Gallas was a brilliant player, and perhaps having the armband put too much pressure on him. So, maybe without the armband, Gallas could still be a great Arsenal player; only if he changes his attitude and mindset, though.
Gallas may not have been captain material, but he is still a leader on the pitch and Arsenal needs such players. Wenger has got a massive job in getting the morale and the squad together again, but, if anyone can do it, he can.
I don’t care if one player hates another player, as long as on the pitch they play for each other and play for the badge and give their all, then that’s all that matters. To play for Arsenal is special. The Emirates has always been a sellout, same as Highbury. To play in front of 60,000 fans must be special, and that’s what is important.
The club must get united again; players, staff, and fans need to be united, and that’s the only way Arsenal will be successful again. The players need to fight for each other and be strong, physically and mentally.
I agree with Gallas in terms of they need to be warriors, which is true. They need the "never give up" attitude like the invincibles of 2004 had. When they concede a goal, they need to keep their heads up and go to the other end and attack, like Henry, Pires, Vieira, etc. used to do.
Forget the past, let’s focus on the future.
Forget the Gallas affair for now and let Wenger sort it out. He will work out; if Gallas’ Arsenal career is over or if he has it in him to come back stronger, because a sharp William Gallas could still be an asset to the team, it will work out. But a lot of bonding needs to be done before even the thought can enter Wenger's mind.
