I seriously have to ask the question, simply by looking back at the history books.
We all remember Kurt Warner, also known as that guy in Arizona. We also know that he had some great seasons with St Louis, winning one ring, and playing in two super bowls.
We also know, that one Marc Bulger came along, was drafted by the Rams in 2000, and was slated to be the next big thing in St Louis.
For one reason or another, Kurt was hurt, Kurt was ineffective, Kurt played horribly, Marc Bulger was put up to full time status.
Kurt was shown the door.
Fast forward, and have the Rams been back to the Super Bowl since Kurt's departure?
How about in the last two years; anything to write home about?
Now, the reason I bring this up, is you look at the Tom Brady-Matt Cassel deal.
Patriots are going ok, still not as smooth, still not as well run.
But, still winning.
What if Brady falls out of favor, when they discover he's lost a step? Or if his injury takes longer than planned? Will they show him the door, just like the Rams did to Warner, or will they keep both QBs, and hope the situation doesn't arise, where two QBs fight for control of the team?
Or could Robert Kraft end up seeing Brady playing well for another club?

Ummmm..Kurt had 3 seasons, Brady has had at least 5 great seasons considering his success.

Actually, if you count every season that Kurt was with the Rams, there's 7 seasons in all, including a drink of water in 1998, and the 02 and 03 seasons.
Brady meanwhile, has had 9 total seasons playing with the Patriots. The likenesses are that both players had a injury-riddled season, Kurt's big problem was that he tried to play hurt, resulting in some of his worst games. Brady's injury was pretty textbook, a leg injury that made it so he didn't have to decide, play or don't play.
There's a couple other options, as far as QBs go, where an injury will either sideline a player, or completely end his career. Dan Pastorini was supposed to replace Stabler in Oakland, only to have his season end early in 1980. Warren Moon, the Oliers decided he had been banged up enough to warrant replacing him with Cody Carlson....which goes down as one of the worst nose-dives a team could make.
I just wonder if the Patriots do move on, in such a way that Warner did....will they regret it in the future? I also heard the rumor they were shopping Brady. Just doesn't sound right.

Cassel is a good QB !!!!
Brady is a great one ..........
There is no way the patriots will brush aside Brady for cassel and i do not see the likes of randy moss letting it happen .
Moss may be happy now but it is only cause he knows Brady will be back next year .

Understandable point, Thomas. Moss would have some weight to throw around. I'm curious as to see how Brady comes back. I remember when Randall Cunningham came back with the Eagles, and had to relearn his own position. Before he was a mobile, fast QB, then he had to become more of a pocket passer.
Nothing wrong there, but it also shows how injuries can change a career around.

Brady's cap hit this year would only be $10 million. For a great QB it a low cap number. Somebody, cough snyder cough, will back a brinks truck up to Cassel's door. If he does well, it will cost more than $10 million to keep Cassel. (Actually, who knows. Maybe Derek Anderson's one year wonder will teach all the GMs. Pause for two beats. I do write comedy, you know?)

Or some team like say, I don't know, the Bucs, who like to use recycled QBs will pony up a ton of money....Garcia's not getting any older.
I'd say the Raiders, since our team has a history of grabbing other teams' Qbs(Plunkett, Lamonica, Hostetler, Gannon, George, Collins, Brooks, Schroeder, Evans....and probably a dozen others), but remember the Bills' backup, Frank Reich? Everyone was sold on him, and he got picked up in the expansion draft by the Panthers. 0-3, in 3 starts, and then 5-15 for his career as a starter.
Do you have Snyder's Cell number? I'm wondering if he'd like a Walker to go with that Hall project...

No, Warner played under an ineffective head Coach, Mike Martz as well as poorly run organization. His replacement Bulger has also been ineffective and has two concussions as well as facing one step away from retirement. But if you want to get rid Brady, the Rams wills take him.

Thanks for reading, john.
True, Martz wasn't Vermeil. A few thought it would be like Seifert after Walsh walked away, but it didn't quite work that well.
Although, your comment does offer up another side to ask. If the Pats decided to ditch him, and he was injured, would they still seek a king's ransom in return? I just wonder how hurt DeAngelo Hall was, when the Raiders got suckered into trading for him....and how many teams lucked out by not signing Ocho Moutho.

My Pleasure.
There is a big difference between the Rams and Patriots. The Rams gave Warner away while the Patriots would ask for a King's ramson for Brady. The Rams would not pickup Brady because they feel if you are getting rid him then there must be something wrong with him. But, there are times when you have to gamble on star on star players, like the Jets did on Farve.

Well, one thing to remember, is that the Patriots did cut loose Drew Bledsoe, who was the face of the team for most of the 90's. I wrote an earlier article about Brady getting dumped in similar fashion, I don't see it happening since Brady has done so much for the club....but stranger things have happened.

Yes, stranger things have happened. They could get draft picks for Brady. Good article.
