Zach Greinke has proved that he is capable of pitching a full run lower than the league average—in the American league.

He is not just a good arm like AJ Burnett

He is not just an NL proved pitcher like Peavy and Sabathia (I know he won the CY Young in 2007, but he was bad with the Indians recently)

He is not old like Lowe.

He is not in a permanent state of injury like Sheets.

No, Zach Greinke is none of those. He is a young pitcher who could contend for the triple crown with the Yankees offense behind him.

I wonder what the Royals demand?

  1. He's not that good..so no way he competes for the triple crown

  2. Are you basing your articles on any facts? It just sounds like you're saying "It'd be cool if the Yankees had Zach Grienke". You said Sabathia is bad because of his bad run with Cleveland this year- were you even aware that he played in the NL this year, and had a ton of success, or do you not follow the NL?

  3. There are a lot of people now thinking and talking (on radio shows like Max Kellerman's and Michael Kay's) about how the Royals would trade him if they cant sign him long term. The only problem with Grienke pitching for the Yankees is the extremely high amount of pressure there is to not only perform well, but to win championships. It is well documented that he has had stress and anxiety problems in the past. Some even question his desire to continue to play baseball (ie. Peter Gammons). That being said, he is a great young pitcher with plus stuff, but I think it would be too risky to make a trade for a pitcher who may not even be completely in love with the idea of playing baseball.

I will say this though, if he is past his psychological problems that he had in the past then I would take a run at him if I were Brian Cashman. Perhaps try and swing a deal that includes David DeJesus. It may take Ian Kennedy, Melky, and a top young pitching prospect or two, but If the Yankees can get C.C. and Grienke to add to a rotation with Wang, Pettitte, and have Hughes or Aceves be that number five starter (I am one of the people who supports Joba being in the bullpen) then the Bombers are the odds-on favorites to win the World Series next year.

  4. Zach Greinke is a terrific pitcher. What could the Yankees possibly offer the Royals for him? They don't have anyone worth Greinke. The Yankees are a team headed in the wrong direction. People are laughing at them.

  5. Greinke is a good young pitcher. I just don't know how he'd handle New York being young and coming from KC. Not to mention he has documented anxiety issues and that added to playing under the microscope in NY probably isn't something the Yankees are looking to gamble on. I just don't think there is a comparison on a guy like Greinke to guys like Burnett, Sabathia, and Peavy. Sabathia didn't have a great start with Cleveland this year, but he had an amazing second half of the season and helped get the Brewers into the playoffs. He threw ten complete games and had over 200 strike outs. Burnett led the AL in strikeouts and despite his tendency to get injured is another solid pitcher. Peavy didn't have his best year in 2008, but he has proved time and time again to be more than a good pitcher. Greinke just doesn't have those qualifications. While I don't think it would be the worst pick up if the Yankees did end up getting him, I think their pitching needs are pretty serious and they need to concentrate on guys like Sabathia, Peavy or even Derek Lowe.

  6. i like Greinke it WOULD be cool if he was a yankee but i dont see that happening
