Allen Iverson has been punished by the Detroit Pistons for not making practice.
What is the punishment for Iverson? Well the Pistons have fined him and stated that he will not be starting against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and he may not even see playing time.
Now the question that has to be asked is why was Iverson not at practice and when every other Piston player was there? The answer is Iverson wanted to be with his family for Thanksgiving.
The only player on the Pistons who didn't make the practice was with his family. Seems strange to me that Iverson would even be punished. The problem is now what does it say about the Pistons organization as a whole?
- B/R Ticket Guide
Today is a sad day for the Pistons organization. The Pistons have just stated that the team is more important than a player's family. Yes, Iverson wasn't with a sick family member or dealing with a family emergency. He just wanted to be with his family on a holiday, so what's the big deal?
The only thing that could be said is Iverson should have called the Pistons since they were having the practice and told them that he is going to be with his family. For one he just moved his family to Detroit and secondly he's probably hasn't had time to make sure his kids have made the adjustment from the move.
Can't blame Iverson for wanting to be with his family. The Pistons organization can be blamed for leaking information about the fine and Iverson not starting on Friday when it should have been a in-house matter.

That is Stupid why is it such a big problem is Iverson Want to Spend Some Quality time with his family.
Their's no reason to punish him.And if his coach said that the team is more important than his family well that a bad coach i always put my family first before anything so i dont think this team really care about Iverson family no good sign

Let's get real. If he had family issues he should have contacted the team and gotten it cleared first. He is a professional basketball player who owes a duty to his team, and organization. Especially since he just got traded, he should be on his best behavior to win the respect of any of those who may doubt him as a team guy with the heart that wants to win it all. Ill advised skipping of practice and it is inexcusable without prior notification to the team. I guess some things never change.

I do agree with you though that if it could have been handled within the organization that would have been best, but with on hand at most practices or even around the arena, people are going to notice the star Allen Iverson is not present and ask questions.

So no other players on the Pistons have families?
from about 1 month ago
Exactly.
Every player on the Pistons has a family that they wanted to spend time with, and every player was upset that they had to practice on the morning of Thanksgiving...
But Allen Iverson was the only one who didn't show up.
The irony is that the reason the practice was so important was because they've yet to come together since Iverson was acquired. Curry and Dumars have said that their team is in "training camp mode" since they've had to make such big adjustments due to AI's arrival.

What we talking about? We talking about practice? Practice? Not a game! Practice.

I think he should've been fined, and leave it at that. You know, like if Brett Favre or Tom Brady or Steve Nash or Tony Romo had missed a practice to be with family on Thanksgiving---------------as a 13 year veteran!----------who sits in one of the top5 slots/amongst those who have done 'the most' to impact that league's billion$ in revenues.

Except that Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Steve Nash or Tony Romo would never have missed practice. Nor would Tayshaun Prince, Rip Hamilton, Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett for that matter.

The more you scream about racism and doube-standards in every instance of behavior in sports, the weaker your argument will be when it actually exists.
Believe me, if Iverson has to come off the bench tonight it will have nothing to with race and much more to do with the fact that the Pistons are playing the Bucks and not the Celtics-there's your double-standard. The last time I checked Joe Dumars and Michael Curry were still black.
Is this where you tell me if it was Mitch Kupchak and Phil Jax at the helm then Iverson would have been suspended?
I'm looking forward to your reply. I can't wait to read more SAT words used incorrectly in sentences.
