For the Dallas Mavericks, there is one consistency in this inconsistent season.  No one has a lock on the starting two-guard spot.

You would think the Mavs had a "Help Wanted" sign posted on the AAC.  And with as many different players that had started, you would think they were doing interviews.

And if they did maybe it would read like this.

Help Wanted

The National Basketball Association's Dallas Mavericks are seeking an aggressive, experienced, athletic, and highly motivated shooting two-guard.

  • B/R Ticket Guide

Responsibilities include stellar defense against opposing two-guards. Must be between 6'2" to 6'8", and 180-240 lbs. Shooting skills a must (hint: shooting guard), three-point range is a plus, though not required.

Must be able to pass, but not the primary responsibility. Must be strong and quick at the same time.  Must be able to play four quarters with personal fouls in check.

Most important, you must be able to do all the above consistently over an 82-game season.

Applicants so far have been Jerry Stackhouse, aging injured body won't let him work.  Gerald Green, so young and talented, but so inexperienced.  Jason Terry, been there done that, better served as sixth-man.  Devean George, great size and defense, not my favorite shooter.

Antoine Wright was the starter, then he wasn't.  In the game against the Pacers, he shot lights out for a career best 24 points.  Could he be the man?  Only Coach Carlisle knows, game time decision.

  1. Great article Janet! You bring up a really good point that has been hurting us all year. What do you think are some options out there to fix this problem?

    1. Who's available? Face it, Mavs don't have much to offer anyone for a trade. We have no picks, they been traded already. We are really stuck with what we got. Do you trade J-Ho, your best 3-option for a better 2? I don't think so! So far Terry carring the load for the 2 spot, but how long will he be consistant. Carlisle IS giving Green starts, but he's not going to leave Green out there to struggle and hurt the team. Green got to take more advantage of the time he gets. Remember he's really a rookie. Now we have Antoine Wright hurt for who knows, how long. George will give us defense and a few points, but not enough offense to be concidered your third option shooter. We need J-Ho back Yesterday. Stabilizing the 3 spot will help the two. I think Brandon Bass problem is he's playing two positions. I think he's dosn't know if he's a 4 or a 5. I don't know an easy answer yet. It's still early, we have seen improvements just small ones.
