The Yankees made CC Sabathia a $140 million offer, one they thought he couldn’t refuse and ultimately hasn’t accepted. Now they are debating on whether to increase that offer.

The Yankees would make such a move if the Angels, who have been expected to make Sabathia an offer, came close or matched the Bombers bid

  • B/R Ticket Guide
according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday.

Newday’s source did not mention how much the Yankees were thinking of increasing the offer to, but it would have to be enough to overcome any West Coast discount the lefty would give the Angels. This announcement could be a tactic to keep the Angels as well as the Giants and the Dodgers from making a formal offer.

This does prove that the Yankees are desperate for the 28-year-old California native and will stop at nothing to get him.

  1. Maybe Sabathia just doesn't want to play for scum. Maybe his integrity is worth more to him then a boatload of money. How much money would be worth pitching for the Nazi's?

If Sabathia turns the Yankees blood money down, maybe he can just save his soul yet.

  2. Well I think CC's agent would look a little greedy telling the Yankees to up their offer to say 7 at 175 or 8 at 200 until there is another offer on the table. Of course, until there is another offer on the table the Yanks would just be bidding against themselves.

I dont think the Yanks should do anything until there is another offer. Certainly, CC's agent know the Yanks will be willing to continue discussions. So if CC just ups and signs with Angels then that was the plan all along and would fit an Arte Moreno sign it today or its gone tomorrow offer. If the Angels or another team (including the Brewers adding a six year) make a pending decision offer with more then 24 hours to it, then the Yanks can go all in further if they want.

And AJ Burnett just waits, if CC goes to the Angels Burnett might get six years from the Yanks. If CC signs with the Yanks the Yanks will still go five as might another team or two.
