LSU's Ugly Slide Downhill Now Obvious to Everyone

College Football, LSU Football, Les Miles, Breaking News

Earlier in the season, when everything was wonderful in Tigertown, I wrote an article called, "When Alabama Goes Into LSU's Stadium, The Last of The Saban Magic Will Evaporate." In it I detailed the problems LSU would face after Saban "Came Home" and took the last of the magic with him.

Since that game all that I said would happen has.  Today LSU struggled and lost to a very pitiful Arkansas team.  They ended their season 7-5. Not a bad sounding record, but it's worse than that number.

Their seven wins come against Div. II Appalachian State, a pitiful North Texas, the worst Auburn team in many years, a really down Mississippi State team, a bad Tulane team, a little Troy University team and one win over a quality South Carolina team.

Did you hear that?  Only ONE win over a quality team this year.  LSU fans love to argue things aren't that bad, but ONE win over a quality team?  There is no argument for that.  Finishing one game from the bottom of the SEC has no argument either.  But I'm sure you'll try.

  • B/R Ticket Guide

In the above-mentioned earlier article, I said that now that Nick Saban's "Magic" was gone, you would see less discipline.  Boy has that shown up in dumb penalties and more.  Plus I reminded them of the trash talking and a lack of composure.  The blowout losses have shown the lack of composure.  Those too are too documented to argue against.

I also said that LSU would have to get used to Miles usual 7-5 or 8-4 seasons.  I was laughed at and that statement was blasted as ridiculous.  Well LSU, the chickens have come home to roost.  How does that prediction look to you now.

Oh they'll make the argument that they had a freshman QB.  Well so did Ole Miss and they drilled you 31-13.  So are you saying freshmen QB's are bad?  Well I'm sure you'll try that tired argument anyway.

Get used to being an "Also Ran" team.  As long as Les Miles is your coach and letting the team keep these crazy penalties, trash talking and composure problems, you will be in continuing trouble.

As long as Les Miles, whose stupid on field coaching decisions have finally started all backfiring, is allowed to stay, you will be the LSU team we all knew before Saban: that doormat team for all the good teams.

The fall from the top happened more quickly than LSU could have ever thought possible.  The fact that they are there to stay until the end of Les Mile's career will take a little longer to settle in and be accepted.

The magic Nick Saban brought to LSU is now all gone, just as I said it would be months ago.  Perhaps now the truth will be a little easier for LSU fans to accept.  Your opponents have seen it in the scoreboards, the empty seats in your stadium and the crazy antics on the field.  Maybe now, you can see it too.

  1. Larry,

I was railroaded on the board for responding in support of the When Alabama Goes Into LSU's Stadium, The Last of The Saban Magic Will Evaporate" article. They all had nasty, classless things to say... calling names and such. Who do they have to yell at and call names now? Hilarious.

    1. Yes Ken, and I'd like to see their arguments now... Priceless! Once they get rid of Miles, we'll have to worry again, until then, let's enjoy the ride...

  2. you guys are right. 2008 will decide every season from now on. no reason to take the field ever again i guess.

LSU sure is on your mind alot.

i don't have a problem with anything you say because i take it for what it is, but all this LSU will return to the doormat routine is just false. LSU is the 12th winningest program in the NCAA. i'm sure bama is near the top but it's not like LSU is baylor or some WAC team. you try to make it sound that way and either you're doing it to be inflammatory or you just don't know that LUS played football before curley hallman.

    always apleasure.

    1. For LSU to become a 7-5 team that DOES make them doormat to the Good Teams as I said. They'll still beat MSU and Vandy, and maybe one or two others, but they'll never be "A big boy" again until Miles is gone. Y'all deserve better. LSU deserves to be a TOP program.

    2. Suddenly the lucky win Bammer had over LSU is making Saban look pretty bad huh? Also the close win over Tulane, Ole Miss, and a few others.

The truth is that you have been trying to make the argument all season that LSU is on a "program slide" and you haven't been able to prove it. One season with the youngest players in the conference is not by any means a Rosetta Stone. LSU still has the #1 recruiting class and is the only team with 2 BCS Championships. The only way LSU would ever fall out of being a top program is if Saban came back!

  3. Oh... you'll hear from them. One thing about people like Brian and Tiger 1, they don't know when to shut up. They'll run their mouth and spew venom at this article I'm sure. Bubba Brian will end up calling you more names, names that he is used to hearing from his mom back at his trailer. Particularly now that they have nothing else to rage about. The truth hurts oh so badly.

    1. Ken,
Win something and then run your mouth. Last time I checked, bama has won zippo in almost ten years and hasn't sniffed a national title in 16 years. You sound like an Ole Miss fan- total wannabe. And please don't go historic on me and trot out all of your titles from the 30s and 40s. Nobody cares.

I am going to enjoy watching Florida beat bama by 40. And bama loses its O line, QB, et al. Next year will be fun. And guess what, still no SEC or national title for the tide. Come visit LSU's trophy case sometime if you want to see trophies that aren't covered in dust.

    2. I can always count on your venom and therefore lack of credibility son. Thanks for replying and showing it time and time again.

    3. Oh... and welcome back to SEC irrelevancy... at least as long as Miles is there.

    4. I'm not your son, truck driver. For a school that has been irrelevant for 25 years, it is amazing how your roaches crawl out of the woodwork with one decent season. But that "decent" season will end as they have for a long time for bama - no trophies, no titles. I know that hurts but that's how it is son.

    5. Thanks again Bubba.

  4. Wow...using "stupid' in calling Les Miles field decisions is kinda, well, not good. I would use the word "questionable." Careful!

But all things aside, Ryan Perrilloux destroyed this team, and now we know why Les gave him sooooo many chances- he knew the other QBs weren't up to the task. I do like Jordan Jefferson- he needs to work on his accuracy, but the dude is a playmaker, and can keep D's off-balance.

    1. Lisa, ESPN calls them stupid, LSU's own fans call them stupid, one CBS announcer called them "near idiotic", so I thought stupid was a nice term... You must not have watched many of them! You're a sportswoman who would have called them worse in private, you're just too nice to do it publicly...

  5. Larry,
Do you have a life outside of writing "contributions" to the Bleacher Report? I am only responding since you sent a post to my site. How much do you really envy LSU's success over the past few years? With every article you write, it becomes more obvious that you dream about being LSU. Alabama has won nothing in forever and won't this season either. I am going to really enjoy watching Florida ram it down your throats so maybe you will crawl back in your hole for the next 16 years. Back to watching the History Channel for you and all of your trailor park brethren. Get a life- --

    1. Loser boy has a rash it seems.

    2. Sure sonny, I run a million dollar business, handle a Boy Scout Troop, do tons of charity work and travel a heck of a lot. Right now I'm in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida getting ready for a game of golf. People who are successful in life know how to multitask. Ask somebody you know who is successful, they'll explain it to you.
And uh, hate to burst your bubble, but we won the SEC west. I can see how a team that finished one game above the bottom that this appear to be nothing, but thanks for playing. I'll still give the home version of Bleacher Report for you to play with at home...

    3. Sorry, Larry, but you are more impressed with your resume than I am. Go look at the articles you've written over the past couple of months - LSU, LSU, LSU, LSU, LSU. You are totally obsessed with LSU and Les Miles. Do you have a picture of Les hanging in your bedroom?? He's apparently all you ever think about.

The good news is after next week's woodshedding by the gators, you will disappear again for a long time. But for LSU fans - we have basketball and baseball (preseason #1) to look forward to this year. When has bama been to the world series or the final four? No wonder you freaks erect statues for football coaches and have 90,000 at spring games. What else is there in Tuscaloosa??

That purple and gold envy is just eating a hole in you and with every article you write, it becomes more apparent. Get a life!!

    4. Larry,

You can't talk sense to these Bubbas. Look at all of the jealousy, the rage. They are easy prey. Just like their team is with LESS at the helm. What's so funny is they were saying that we were no better than Ole Miss and would be no more than that, year in and year out... LOL! Of course, that is before the Rebels went into Drunk Valley and beat the living daylights out of them. I mean complete domination! All along they were talking about themselves. THEY... are looking up at Ole Miss, and will continue to do so. Welcome back to SEC irrelevency! BAAHHAAAAHAAAA!

  6. Win something before you mouth off. I almost fell over backwards in my chair reading a bama fan calling an LSU fan "loser boy." Now that's funny.

    1. Keep talking. I always yawn when I'm interested.

    2. Jealousy of what? Bama football? I see you've been hanging out in your meth lab again. 2 BCS championships and three SEC titles since 2001 - I like that kind of irrelevancy.

LSU was 8-5 in 2002 with your boyfriend as our coach (in his third year) and guess who won the national title the next year? The sad part for bama is this is the best year you've had in 16 years and you won't even win the SEC title. Ha! Talk about irrelevant - but I sure you know all about being a wannabe since that's what bama football's been for sooo long. And next year without your O line and JPW, welcome back to the real world. We'll see how big your mouth is next season.

Ken, if you're such a big bama fan, why are you responding to Bleacher Report this morning instead of tailgating outside of BDS before the Iron Bowl?? Some big bama fan you are---

    3. Have you READ my articles? I've written about a ton of teams and conferences. Can you get ANY fact straight?

  7. i've told everyone who'd listen that LSU would lose 4 games this year. a new QB and all of sabans players (i think theres 1 6th year guy) now gone made it an easy choice. i'd feel more accomplished by the prediction if it wasn't such an easy one to predict. although i didn't know for sure bama would be as good as they are, i did think we'd win 10 games with a chance against georgia. felt confident against an overrated clemson and by the time the georgia game came around i was sure we'd smack'em. another easy one to predict if you looked at the game without georgias preseason hype. its great to be a bama fan theses days. it's official, saban is the best contemporary coach and possibly one of the best of all time.

  8. LSU is a program headed back down the crapper in their rightful place. I expected Lucky Les to lose his 4 leaf clover this year and lose 5 or 6 games.

    Next year...more of the same.

  9. Though I think the writer has made some good calls on LSU's season (most of which was predicted by those of us who are objective Tiger fans), the sophomoric, gloating tone of this post reeks of hyperbolic piss and vinegar. LSU has had a bad year. That much is evident even to the most partisan fan. To say that Les Miles will continue to have bad seasons, however, is wishful thinking for the rest of the SEC, and in no way proven by the last few weeks. As always, we will have to wait to see what happens. Miles will try to solve the defensive coordinator(s) problem in the off-season, and the QB situation will not be 'horrific' next year.

Alabama's 'return' to relevancy is 100% the result of Nick Saban's coaching. Hopefully people now understand why we hated to see Nick go, and hated even more his decision to coach a team in our division (a kind of disloyalty that hurts more because so many of us loved Saban while he was here). Alabama, like many programs, solved a problem by throwing money at it. That 'investment' is paying off, making the SEC West a (more) competitive conference again--especially now that Houston Nutt has Ole Miss on track. In fact, I think Ole Miss will be the story next year.

I came across this blog on accident, linked from another site. Needless to say, I'm a little disappointed by the shallowness of the analysis, which amounts to little more than back-slapping and finger-pointing.

    1. Good point about Nutt. I wrote a glowing article on what a good pick up he was for the Rebs. I also wrote a glowing article or two about Vandy's return to bowling... I'm not all piss and vinegar, I just call 'em as I see 'em... It's easy to think one way or the other when you just read a select few... PS, if you knew the posts I got that preceeded the games, you'd understand the tone...

    2. But this is precisely the point. I came across your article out of context. You seem to be more interested in pissing people off than in "calling 'em." Persuasion is an art.

  10. Can't say that I understand the obsession some Bama fans have with Les Miles and the health of the LSU program, other than the fact that they know it will get under the skin of the LSU fans.

Welcome back to the big leagues, Bama. Seems some Bama fans are trying to make up for lost time in the smack talk department.

One year does not a slide make, in my opinion.

    1. The slide starts with the initial slip..... Not smack talking, just callin' 'em as I see 'em... When Bama stinks, I've called that too..

    2. Bama fans, particularly Larry, are obsessed with Les Miles and LSU. As Florida learned last year, one bad season means zippo and the same is true for LSU. But, when you haven't been relevant for almost 20 years like bama, you grab at straws and throw rocks at clouds. Florida will remind bama next Saturday that one good season doesn't mean "bama is back." I expect the gators to win by at least 30.

LSU will get a new defensive staff next year, return 16 starters and an experienced QB, and will have the number one recruiting class in the country. Let the bama fans throw rocks at Les Miles. It will make next year that much more fun to watch.

    3. Tiger1, your history needs a little correct knowledge... You compare your downhill slide to Florida's 4 losses? Uh, yours were awful blowout losses and Florida's close losses? They were competitive in their losses... Sheesh man... If that's what it takes to get you through the night...

  11. Actually, Larry, your history needs a lot of correction.

You may want to go open the history books on your boyfriend Nicky $aban if you want to continue to beat this drum about LSU's decline. In 2002, saban's third year at LSU with a team full of future NFL players both he and Dinardo recruited, LSU was 8-5. One of our wins was a miracle play against KY or else LSU would have been 7-6. Auburn beat us 31-7 and even bama beat us at home 31-0. VA Tech beat us by three TDs. Texas destroyed LSU in the Cotton Bowl at the end of that season. So, LSU lost to VA Tech, Auburn, Bama and Texas by huge scores, and guess what happened the very next season - National Championship.

So, your claim that LSU is spiralling downward is without merit if history is any barometer. So, let's not let history or logic or anything rational get in the way of your conclusions. Keep thinking LSU is about to become what bama has been for the past 20 years. It will just make the next few years more fun to watch.

Next year bama will return to being bama with a new QB and a new O line. Maybe you'll even start writing stories about your own school and its problems instead of continuing your obsession with LSU.

    1. Gosh, can you get ANYTHING right? It's not who brings them in, it's what they learn while they're there. Read your own fans blogs, everybody but you can see the king has no clothes. We have great O people just waiting to step in, and when they've been in we've missed nothing.

PS, our QB in waiting won the Texas State Playoffs and just demonstrated his ability with a perfect in stride bomb for a TD against Auburn's first string defender. Oh yeah, we're just shaking in our boots with this 2 year college QB running the show. New? Not hardly? But I guess you can't up to two years of experience in our system... Let me help... Hold up both thumbs... That's two...

    2. "It's not who brings them in, it's what they learn while they're there."

REALLY?? Haven't you and Franklin been saying Miles won with saban's players for the past few years? And, now suddenly, "it's what they learn while they're there?" Well, guess who's been THERE for the past four years. I'll give you a hint - it hasn't been your boyfriend nick saban. And, you didn't respond at all to the argument that one bad season means nothing. If it did, how did LSU go from 8-5 with numerous huge losses in 2002 to a national title in 2003?? I guess that doesn't fit nicely into your thinking so you just ignored that.

I give up. Someone needs to place you in a MRI and see is there is any brain activity. I think it's highly doubtful.

  12. Stumbled across this from another site and it looks like a good place to vent. First of all, I'm a huge LSU fan. I love my Tigers but also (usually) pull for Bama (I lived in Tuscaloosa for awhile) as long as they are not sharing a field. I have nothing but respect for Saban and, yes, I am jealous that he is not wearing the purple and gold anymore. I was skeptical of the hiring of Miles when it happened and, even through the National Title last year, have felt that he could not and would not keep LSU at the level Saban left them. It turns my stomach to see the decline happen so fast. For those that still insist on pinning the season on the qb situation, our defense was terrible. The co-coordinator experiment has failed miserably and Miles needs to do what he should have last year; hire an experienced, big name DC. Jon Tenuta was available last year and he was not even mentioned. So was Tyrone Nix and look what he did with Ole Miss. People want to bring up that Saban lost blowout games and losing like that means nothing. I hope you're right, but the truth is the current LSU teams play with little to no discipline. When adversity hits them, the players crumble. Go back to last year's game against Kentucky. In overtime, one of the 'Cat's scoring drives was kept alive by Tyson Jackson punching a guy in the head. The most disturbing thing about LSU this year was the fact that they did not get any better as the season went on. If fact, they got noticeably worse. Not getting better, lack of discipline, predictable playcalling, and overall weak play all point to bad coaching. I don't know what else to say, but I can only hope that Miles realizes the mistakes he's making as a coach and fixes them. I endured the '90s as a Tiger fan but, damn, did it suck.

    1. Noxian, Some fans just can't see what you and I see so clearly. But just wait. In a year or two Tiger1 will be telling everyone that always knew that Miles was no good...

  13. Wrong again Larry. I'm really not that big of a Miles fan. I just don't drink the inordinate amounts of crimson kool-aid you drink and give Miles credit where credit is due. Why is your mission in life to degrade Les Miles? Look at the articles you've written about the man over the past few months. I don't understand your obsession with him - I don't like saban but I've never written an article about him. He's not LSU's coach anymore so why would I care what he does? You are so jealous of LSU you have to throw rocks at Miles and his program to make yourself feel better I guess. You will soon discover that trashing LSU and Miles isn't going to win bama any trophies.

So your backup QB threw a nice pass with a four TD lead against Auburn - really impressive. Hate to tell you but Jarrett Lee is also from Texas and was considered to be a big-time recruit when we signed him. That worked out well. Your QB only has mop-up experience and will be behind an inexperienced offensive line next year. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I am looking forward to the pasting bama will get this weekend. And, thank God, bama will be back to being an also-ran in the SEC once again and maybe you will finally just shut up.

Until bama wins a SEC title, it's all about LSU, Florida and Georgia. Everybody else is just a spectator. Enjoy the seats in the upper deck where you've been for the past 16 years.

    1. Once again, you show your total lack of football knowledge. Our backup QB has been working out against one of the nations best defenses for two years every day in practice. Jarett Lee has not. Only a person lacking football savvy couldn't comprehend this difference here.

  14. Oh yeah, right, LSU had a horrible defense last year when Jarrett Lee was on the team. And, if I remember correctly, bama's defense last year was a glorified high school team. And all of that "game" experience your QB has gotten in practice is just like playing USC every week. You are a truly a total moron. Go away. I'm done with this.

  15. If I looked as foolish as you, I'd quit writing also...

    1. Larry,
Things got a little edgy in our last exchange and shouldn't have. From what you've written about yourself, you seem like a decent guy. I applaud your work in Scouting (I became an Eagle a long, long time ago) so we share our affection for the BSA. You have written a lot of very negative things about Les Miles that I think are unfair and premature. The jury is still out on Miles but he's done a great job here so far regardless of how bad this year was. To claim that LSU's program is spiralling downward after one bad season is a bit of a reach. In fact, it's ridiculous to think that after the incredible success of the three previous seasons.

I think you will find your love affair with saban won't continue forever. He had great recruiting classes at LSU and still averaged 3 1/2 losses a year and his record at Mich State was even worse. He was a disaster at Miami and left the franchise in shambles. In time, things will average out and the wild expectations of bama fans will chill a bit. Miles is going to fire at least three coaches and bring in a top notch D coordinator. LSU will also have another great recruiting class and an a QB with some experience next year. So, if you assume bama is the new power in the West from now on, I wouldn't take that bet.

Anyway, good luck this weekend. Truce.

  16. Just keep telling yourself that practicing against bama's defense is the same as playing in a game. You need to stick to golf and give up football since no one with any knowledge of the game would say something that idiotic. And if bama's defense is so great, why did LSU run over and through it this year and last? LSU ran for over 200 yards this year against your great defense. Jarrett Lee gave bama the game so appreciate your early Christmas present.

    My prediction for this weekend:
    Florida 45
    Bama 13

The only thing more fun to watch will be next season when reality returns to the capstone. Too bad that 12-1 record won't help remove any dust from your trophy case. The more things change, the more things stay the same. Adios moron. Stick to golf and selling insurance.

    1. Once again, you can't get anything right... Selling Insurance? Golf? And which trophy case are you talking about. Unlike LSU, we've got more than one... I think we're up to 14 now. 5 just for the SEC championship ones, 21 trophies fills a lot of space... And even though we have 17 "National Titles", we only claim 12 of them as worthy for the 3 main cases of championship trophies... I've seen LSU's... You guys actually display trophies from the weedwacker bowl and so forth and still can't make a decent display...

  17. I've seen bama's trophy case - it's covered with dust.

3 SEC titles (one shared with two other teams) since 1982- maybe Vandy would be impressed but I'm not. Other than bama fans, who else is impressed??

You just keep making a bigger jackass out of yourself with every additional post. Give it up.

  18. You sir are ah um, not telling the truth... There that's nice... We hire LSU grads to dust it every day... They work cheap...

  19. I doubt you could afford my hourly wage. Visiting T town once every two years is all I can take anyway.

Anyway, good luck this weekend. Truce.

    1. Truce accepted! Yes I became an Eagle in '74 and my son in 2007. I sit on the Lake Sands District Eagle Board of Review and have been a part of my local troop here in PC Beach for about 10 years and I've been in Scouting for over 25...

Miles has just done some incredibly stupid things that caught my attention last year. (They worked out good last year but if some of those decisions hadn't....) Then this year it just all came to a head. I know LSU will come back, I just don't think Miles will do it.

It's like I've said hundreds of times in many post responses, "Time generally solves all the debates." So we'll see.

As far as Saban, after Saturday's game he visibly had tears in his eyes and said that "For the first time in my coaching life, everything has finally all come together. These players are 100% bought in, the administration is 100% bought in, and these fans are 100% bought in." He said this when asked why he circled the whole stadium after the game giving high fives and thanks to fans to thank them for everything they've contributed this year...

We knew we were hiring a man with no loyalty to us or anyone, he was just the best hired gun for the money. We didn't give a damn about loyalty. If he won and left we figured we got our money's worth. But now he's really "bought in to us." I hope he stays, but if he doesn't our revenue's have gone up so much that his 4 mil salary is a drop in the bucket. We've already won, got our stadium upgraded with another addition on the way to become the third biggest in all of college football.

So either way with Saban, we've won.

    2. One of the major reasons why so many LSU fans loathe saban is because he basically did the same song and dance in BR. He told us how much he loved us, LSU would always be his school, Tiger Stadium was the greatest place on earth, blah, blah, and then he was gone. And then he shows up at bama 18 months later. You wouldn't have liked it either if our positions were reversed. If he wouldn't have acted like there was some sort of special bond between him, his family and the LSU community, not as many people would have felt so betrayed. I also know he realized very early on that his decision to go to Miami was a mistake and he wanted to come back to LSU - but Miles was doing too well for that to happen.

But bama is in a much better situation with him than we ever were. When he was here, he explored opportunities in the NFL every season - you won't have to deal with that anymore. He also has lost so much credibility jumping from job to job (and lying about his intentions) that he has to stay at bama or take another credibility hit. So, I actually think he'll stay there for a pretty long time. I know his wife really misses BR and still has a lot of close friends here. She sat with LSU fans during the bama game here. But, if Miles left/fired from LSU, would saban come back - doubtful. Too much has happened and too many bridges have been damaged.

The point I have been trying to make is Miles isn't as stupid as you think he is and saban isn't the Bear Bryant everyone there thinks he is. Sure, he is a football god this year but the SEC is really down and, be honest, bama really hasn't beaten anyone this year. Even your win over UGA doesn't look so great anymore. He had superior talent compared to just about everyone in the SEC while he was at LSU and never went undefeated. He also had some bad years with good talent while he was here.
