Auburn, it's not like Alabama wasn't going to beat you anyway.  It's not like they weren't going to embarrass you.  But it wouldn't be gentlemanly not to thank you for all you did today to actually help us.  So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, let us thank you.

Thanks for getting off the bus today and being stupid enough to raise 7 fingers.  It reminded the players, coaches and fans just why they needed to rub your faces in the mud today.

Thanks for giving Brad Lester a microphone and the opportunity to publicly say that that Auburn would beat both Georgia and Alabama, and by a good number of points. His prediction abilities matched his ability to contribute to Auburn today. He played and talked like a true loser.

  • B/R Ticket Guide

Thanks for recruiting such lightweights up front. It made it so easy for our first-, second-, and third-string teams to run it down your throat.

Thanks for committing all those stupid penalties.  They came in handy.  And while we're thanking you for stupid things, thanks for all the dropped passes and for that matter, for letting Kodi Burns throw at all.  He only hurt us when he ran.

Thanks for those two third-quarter fumbles.  It helped us start the avalanche.  The one in the fourth quarter was just an added bonus, and we felt you were being much too kind.

Thanks for making all the second- and third-string players on defense look so good.  I guess that showed everyone that Alabama really could have beaten you with our Scout Team.  The confidence they gained will help them next year.

And finally, thanks for letting us beat you by more points in this game than you have beaten us by in the last three years combined.

It really helped get that bad feeling even further away from our thoughts.  In all six wins in the streak, you NEVER beat us by more than nine points.

So Tommy and Co., be sure and let us shake your hand before you leave Tuscaloosa.  We really want to thank you properly...

  1. Staggeringly condescending. How many have you guys dropped to Auburn since Tuberville took the reins? Seven? A little more perspective/humility is in order, I think. You have one more game to win before the celebration starts, and that won't be against a team with a losing record.

  2. Matthew, this is Larry. Larry, meet Matthew.

Larry writes this kind of crap all the time. Its just his "way".

Good win by Bama today, Larry.

    Now, on to Atlanta.

  3. Then I'll come back and read his article after Florida has their way with Bama and tosses Saban a twenty.

    1. Hey, Saban might be a &*()^ but he's a 4 plus million dollar one, so you better be prepared to leave more than a 20....

    2. So you have learned something about Saban...and so soon.

  4. Matthew, I remember another team from Florida that talked like that one time too.......

    1. Lemme guess, 1992?

Bama fandom = relishing past glory.

    2. Oh, oh, oh - I wanna play:

Was it the 1986 Miami team that got beat by Penn State?

    3. Is it too late to change my answer?

How about the 2001 Miami team that lost to Ohio State? Is that it?

    4. I'm far from a Gator fan. Just sizing Bama up against Florida and making a judgment. Bama's big win this year is Georgia and we see what happened to them. Speaking objectively, Florida is the best team in the country right now. Bama is the underdog, even the BCS computers don't see it.

  5. yup 12 of them

    1. Mindi, They only want to count history when it's their history. What they don't realize ANYTHING that happened before this season is history. They just don't like ours....

    2. Bama has every right to be proud of their history and their present. They problem that many of us have is seeing many Alabama fans denying the history of their recent suckage by being arrogant. And this is especially odd because no one here (I think) has contributed to team's success! I can see the players talking trash, but when fans do it (as it has been done here), it comes across as small and ridiculous. Be proud of your team and its accomplishments, but (and here it comes) show some class.

But that applies to everyone drinking haterade too...

  6. Oh Larry I know!! How many NC has FL won?? Uhmmmm 2??? right??

So, we should be what? Gracious? Magnanimous? Like Tuberville was when he started holding up his fingers? Should we behave like he did as he walked in to our stadium showing seven fingers, predicting a seventh win? Or was he predicting a seventh loss? Either way he meant it, he got what he was asking for.

And its SO funny that with everyone complaining about Bama fans living in the past, and having nothing to brag about that isn't 15 years ago. Now that we have bragging rights against our rival, in a very convincing victory, you want to talk about what? The past games we've lost to Tuberville. Who gives a damn how many we've dropped to them, they dropped it today. We gave them their seventh loss, killed their bowl chances and we're undefeated. We can brag about THAT today.

    1. Magnanimous? Why, yes. Try that. It would be more like your beloved Bear.

    2. The Bear is dead, haven't you heard?

    3. And with him my respect for your program and its fans, apparently.

    4. You didn't have any respect to begin with.

Did you blast Tubby for being so classless that he started holding up his fingers? When a COACH shows that kind of behavior, he invites ridicule on his team when they lose.

    5. Smiley, I grew up in the SEC and Bear Bryant was a god among men. It's true that I have no love for Bama, but I have nothing but respect for its history. Believe it or not, loving football is about more than current records and BCS bids. Let's be honest, National Championships are the most ephemeral things in the world. So brag and beat your chest all you want, as long as you know that no one care about what you did last year when September rolls around.

Tuberville has always been an ass. Why lower yourself?

    6. Dude, I didn't write the article. I wouldn't have ever written something like this. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading it. And I'm just defending the reason it was written. I wasn't referring to ANY past championships. Never said a word about any of them. I was talking about what Alabama did today, and what we have to be proud about right now. Should we only be proud for the things that will be talked about next September?

And come on, be honest, isn't "your beloved Bear" a little condescending too?

    7. I meant it to be ironic, not condescending. He's the hero that no one emulates.

    8. Smiley, you have to consider how they think... It's only classless when we respond, not when others slam us... As I said, I'm GLAD to be the underdog in this hunt. That's where we do our best. Funny how everyone says they're so good until we beat them. If we beat Florida everyone will say, well, Florida had a down year this year, they weren't really that good, after all Ole Miss beat them. Bama still hasn't played anyone great yet... Just wait till they play the Big Ten Opponent!

    9. Larry, so you now know how "we" think? I have been pretty consistent in saying that it is classless whenever ANYONE responds as you have: Tuberville, Auburn fans, Florida fans, LSU fans, etc. The difference is that you have the added responsibility of "analyst" attached to your blog. I just want you to live up to the billing. Stop cheerleading/d*#k measuring and continue analyzing.

  8. Larry, I don't have any problem with the history.

I just need someone to explain what Bama's 12 NC's or their Sugar Bowl win over Miami has to do with the 2008 SEC Championship Game on December 6th, 2008.

Are they going to start the SECCG with the score Bama 12, Florida 2 based on the number of NC's won by each school?

Wouldn't the fact that we have players on this Gator team that won a BCS title as recently as 2006 be more relevant than Bama winning their last NC in 1992 by beating Miami?

    1. Then let me explain it to you. When you play for school, for good or bad, you buy into their history too. It becomes yours. Bama has a history of being overlooked and discounted in playoff games. They also have a history of overcoming those odds and winning them. This team believes they are part of that legacy. They believe it is their destiny also. It has worked so far this season when everyone said we have little or no chance of winning. So no, I've read quotes from your own players that have said stuff like, "You never want to discount Alabama in a SECG, they hurt you when you do." So unlike you, they seem VERY aware of not only the history, but the mentality of the Alabama mind set. Even Steve Spurrier once said, "Those guys get a 7 point advantage just for putting on those Crimson jerseys", referring to our confidence in such games.

The fact that you've had players there could help you or hurt you. It could mean experience, it could mean cockiness, who knows? But the fact that none of our guys have been there doesn't hurt us. We've already played one "bowl game" this year against Clemson and won. And it was in the same fast track stadium where we're playing you.

We were told in that game we would be playing against one of the best QB's in the nation and the best running back duo in the ENTIRE nation. That team averaged ZERO yards rushing and the QB ran for his life for much of the game. We were told they had too much team speed also. So pardon us for not being scared by Florida. Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth...

    2. Mattew, Charlie Weis is magnanimous... Ask him how that's working out for him. Coach Bryant won by training his boys to knock the other team's cods in the dirt and then run over them. He didn't win by being a nice guy or being respected. He was respected because he could consistently train boys to knock down opponents and trample them. Let's not try and re-write history...

    3. Larry, don't you see the difference between going out and destroying the other football team on the field and sitting on your couch and berating a team? I mean, one would think from your blog that you had something to do with it. Sure you are a Bama fan, but you bragging about the victory in such an unconnected way is like some guy bragging about how great his neighbor's new Mercedes is, just because he was smart enough to move next to him.

    4. Larry, thanks for the response.

I am aware of the history and mystique of Alabama.

I am also well aware of the more recent history of Florida football.

This Bama team may be the reincarnation of the 1992 team and Saban may be channeling Bear Bryant, but it is possible that this teams destiny is to lose to Florida on Dec 6th.

I expect a great game either way.

  9. They'll shut up about this time next week. Until them...let 'em run their mouths. It makes great entertainment.

  10. Of course the "Bear" was magnanimous. He could afford to be, what with 6 national champoinships and 13 SEC championships.......

    1. I like to think that he won all those championships BECAUSE he was magnanimous. His players loved him. His enemies feared him. Everyone respected him.

    2. Oh Mindi, that idiot is talking about the "modern era"... You know, like since they've had Nintendo's... Not anything THAT old....

  11. Hey matthew, I was agreeing dahlin!! My Grandfather knew Coach Bryant and believe you me he could talk trash with the best of them!! But yes, he was very good people!!

  12. Normally I'm all about good sportsmanship and class. I like nothing better than to see opposing players help each other up and give kudos for good plays. But my point is don't talk about one of us giving Auburn fans a taste of their own medicine. When the head coach, the spokesman for his team, decides to heap insult on a team he just beat, it promotes that kind of insult in return. If you want to be respected, you have to give respect first. You give out arrogance and you get condescension in return.

    1. Smiley, I understand what you are saying. I really dislike Tuberville. But Tubby's shtick doesn't look any better on you (or Larry) than it does on him.

    2. I understand your point as well. I think respecting your opponent is a virtue that is slowly fading away. Even the "unbiased" media can't help but take sides. And no, that isn't a jibe at the reporters who are picking Florida to win next week. It's just a comment at the mere fact that they pick anyone at all, it undermines the idea of being unbiased as a journalist. I think a lot of virtues are being eroded away.

  13. Smiley, I agree with you about the media and all. That's why I hate listening to ESPN and other sports commentators. I just mute the TV and listen to Eli!! :)

    1. I still listen to the commentators on tv. I like hearing them stick their foots in their mouths! But when I go to the game I like taking some headphones and listening to Eli, sure hope Snake comes back next year!!

    2. Have you noticed how many times CBS gets the players names wrong? They are the pits...

  14. Do you Guys really no why ,Tuberville was holding up 7 fingers. It was because He already had figure it was going too be his 7th lost of the year. I don't think he was expecting to see is first shut out of the season tho. Let alone a 36 point Butt whooping. As for as Florida, well it is true ,You Guys have Beat up on other Teams, Even if most were already Beat up. Like Georgia, you Guys Played them after Alabama did, and Thanks too Bama, you did'n half too play againts the real deal. But I understand ,You have got too cut Bama Down in order too feel like you are a better team. But ,you no as well as we Bama fans no, It will be proven Saterday, who the better team is, I for one has got too go with Alabama for Thats My Team no matter what, and I expect no less from the way you Florida fans feel . With thy said hope too see a good Game from Two good Teams. ROLL TIDE

    1. Best comment on B/R, ever!

  15. Great win for bama. Matthew are you an auburn fan? I'm a Nole, and while I agree UF will beat the tide, geez, you GOT to them credit for the year they had and Saban definitely deserves coach of the year. He is a true teacher, a rare trait in coaches these days. Considering how the auburn fans have been acting, they deserve everything they get from tide fans.

    1. Thanks Kyle!
