QB Prospect Antone Exum Chooses Va. Tech Over Maryland Terps

The Maryland Football team was looking for an early Christmas gift, hoping for a verbal commitment from 2009 quarterback prospect Antone Exum (6'2", 210 pounds).   Unfortunately for the Terps, he had his sights set elsewhere.

Exum, a Rivals.com 3-star prospect, had narrowed his choices to Virginia Tech and Penn State.  In the end, the potential to play in-state in front of friends and family proved to be the decisive factor as he placed a call to the Hokie coaching staff on Christmas Day to tell them his plans to attend in 2009.

Exum is a dual-threat quarterback for his Deep Run high school team as he passed for 978 yards and nine touchdowns and ran for 745 yards and 15 touchdowns and has been told he could either play quarterback or cornerback. Exum told the Roanoke Times, ""Penn State told Kevin Newsome that it was 100 percent that he would play quarterback," Exum said. "I was going to be a slot receiver for them. I just didn't feel like I was ready to give up quarterback just yet."
