FACT If Johnny Majors was playing today he would be considered undersized and slow and would be cut from team Tennesse's current lineman are considered some of the strongest people in the world Jacques McClendon can bench press well over 600 lbs i would love to see one of your beloved lineman from the 50's line up across from him yes granted in their time they were great but the players I selected are better. Also, Peyton Manning is a terrible example to try and make fun of me with considering he is currently excelling at the highest level of football if he was coming of out of high school right now he would be a 5 star prospect the level of talent has not changed that much in the 11 years since he graduated compared to era of the Wing-T 50+ years ago

BabyTate, I appreciate your concern for me. No I was not on vacation...I was in a terrible situation. The company where I work has blocked/filtered the internet, with what seems to be about 75% of the internet. So during the day, when I have down time, is when I write and post comments, etc. At night I am just so busy, I'm hardly ever at home; therefore my absence to BR has been killing me.

I was able to check BR on my PDA cell phone, which reminds me I need to go back and comment on your baseball better than football article...yeah, good one there. Well, needless to say, it's almost impossible to try to write much more than a comment from my phone, it basically just serves as a way to access and read, I couldn't even access everything on BR from the phone.

So, anyway, I get to work this morning and my computer begins to receive BR feeds, which has not happened since Monday morning. I log on and apparently of the several pages I requested they open back up, this is one of them! I was so glad to not see the filter page pop up. How long this lasts I have no idea. So if it goes down again you may see less of me around here for a couple of weeks until my night schedule slows down again.

Look for my All-Time College Football Series to resume today, with the focus on the center.

Hey,
I also write for an Ohio State blog and I am trying to put together an article comparing the calls that are made in the Big 10 compared to other conferences. Are there more or less of a certain call in one conference than the others, etc. Anyways, I have been having trouble finding solid numbers and thought that you might be able to help out. So if it isn't too much to ask you to help out a Buckeye, I would love to hear any ideas, considering your wide knowledge base of college football.

The Delaware thing...it's turned into 3 maybe 4 things. I've got enough background to do a series and my son, the Blue Hen LAX alumni, keeps sending me these 500+ word emails with more AD info. He's psyched.

I'm going stick with the upcoming Terps / Hens game, Conference info and a wee bit o' UD history which I've already completed.

Nelson and Tubby are stories unto themselves and I've already started them so...

Coach Keeler threw a PR line out to the media that is so provocative I'm using it as my header...it'll get the I-A teams fired up and readers lined up.

Yeah, I read the looong comment this morning and when I checked back Fricks had a picture so I figured he might write the piece.

It's very well done but really long and the bottom 3rd is off subject about Cobb's Augusta days, not about racism, but whatta ya do.

I peeked at his website/blog and I think he just cut and pasted without editing for this forum, understandable.

I tell you this, I've learned a lot about editing here mostly by checking other long time editors work and not taking on more than I'm qualified to edit...but this one only needed little stuff but a LOT of it so I plunged.

I worry that young people don't read books anymore, don't get to see how things flow and are structured in print.

I sense a fatigue for the subject in your words.

Foster had a good year, Micky did whatever he was told to do, Anderson was roided like a zombie. I do believe that 'roids can improve the eyesight to a degree.

George Foster hit 50+ home runs in middle of a 50 year drought of 50 home run seasons. I'm guessing, just guessing, that if he was juicing in '77 he should have considered juicing in NY when they really needed 40+ home runs.

Mathmatics can expose 99% of 'roid users there's no doubt in my mind.

Sure, I remember Foster. Do you think he was a pioneer on steroids or do you think that it was not wide spread then or did we just not know about it? We know Mantle "took the shot" in '61 and had to miss the rest of the regular season. Fortunately for the Yankees, the Reds (long before Foster) were no match for them in the World Series that season.

What about Brady Anderson? What was that all about? Matt Williams? Do you think we should look back at dynamic seasons of players in the past and suggest there could be a "medical connection"? Or do you think we could mark them up to "spinach in scrambled eggs diets"? By the way LJ, do you realize the actor(Bruce McGill) that played Yankee Manager Ralph Houk in "61" is the same person who played Daniel Simpson Day, "D-Day" who rode his motorcycle to the top of the stairs and played the Lone Ranger theme on his throat in the movie Animal House? "Daniel Simpson Day has no grade point average". Gosh, that is such unimportant trivia.

What we do know is that Barry Bonds was a great player for the Pirates before he took steroids. You may not be able to separate that person from the one you're suggesting was "steroided up" in San Francisco but, there is one thing the steroids could not have helped him with and that is his astonishing ability to take walks. Bonds is the greatest I've ever seen at taking walks and that is just patience because he always had the eye even in Pittsburgh. Like many of us, we somehow feel duped if Bonds used steroids to achive his record HR run however, I don't like the Roger Clemens situation either.

Here is my suggestion, look at Conseco as the tip of the iceberg. Say that there was as much abuse before him as after to give us an arc of time to work with. Look inside that arc and find who had extraordinary seasons, particularly after several years of decline. Those are your steroid users. And no, I don't believe Boog Powell was on steroids. I think he was the best fat guy to ever play the game.

So, I'm in a war over steroids in Baseball with a teenager and Zander, a war so vile that I'm actually considering writing again.

I've been having unassisted flashbacks to September of '77 and the absolute shock I experienced when George Foster hit homers 50,51 and 52 , and I mean I was amazed to the point it affected me deeply ... just WOW.

You're old, at least as old as I am so maybe you remember it and you had a reaction to it. Or maybe you're not a Baseball guy ... dunno ... any thoughts? Any other old folks here you know, like us, that I can interview?

Evidently the words "scourge, poisoning, Nazis, Al Qaeda, Cancer, AIDS, Small Pox, vile, lack of integrity, soulless, slow burning death, plague of biblical proportions" ... are key words for a spankin' on B/R.

So Fox NASCAR is speculating on Kyle Busch making a run at 13 wins like Petty and Gordon. The article has a little sidebar with all driver's win totals of 11+ in a season. There's Petty, Gordon's 13, DW with 12 twice, Elliott and Ironhead with 11 and then David Pearson's 11 in '73 ... with his little asterisk.

*only drove 18 of 28 races.
