Marty's Bio

Marty Andrade is a former.

He's a former political activist, former (paid) columnist, former radio talk show host and former former.

Now Marty just wishes to get beyond what he did and get to what he's going to do.

A longtime baseball fan and statistics freak who carries an old school TI-82 calculator wherever he goes, Marty is always ready to perform a regressional analysis while telling people about motivation curves and how they are important.

He's the Bleacher Report's resident Sabermetrician and for that his readers will get no apologies.

He's a graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds degrees in Psychology and Philosophy.

All Time Sports Moment

Greatest moment ever has to be Don Larsen's perfect game in the '56 World Series, but the greatest moment I ever seen was watching the Red Sox win the World Series.

Most Memorable Game Attended

Saw Bob Tewksbury's 100th win, several Ken Griffey Jr home runs, the home opener of the 1993 Rockies and saw Cal Ripken play several times. I couldn't name one game as being better among all those, though my first ever baseball game (the Rockies home opener in 1993) ranks pretty close.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak.

Ruth or Mays?

Ruth, May's wasn't a dominant player. He was a better glove than Mantle but Mantle had the better bat. No one came close to Ruth during his peak years.

Unitas or Montana?

Montana

Pele or Maradona?

Pele

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Big 10, how can there be debate on this?

  2. Marty,

Ben and I are putting together end of the season awards for the MLB. We're taking votes from all community leaders. Shoot me your e-mail so I can send you the ballot when the time comes.

    Thanks!

  3. Hey Marty,

Just wanted to let you know that CF part #3 is up...thanks for reading!

  4. Here's the latest installment of Top 10 Center Fielders: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/43356-move-over-barry-bonds-thats-why-i-play-in-center-field-part-ii

Somewhat more statistical analysis in this one, though still far from up to your standards =)

  5. I hear you on that Marty. Keep fighting the good fight =)

    Z

PS: have you ever checked out Baseball Fever? They have some great message boards on history of the game...

  6. Hey Marty, me again...

You know anywhere we might be able to get these MLB history-type articles linked?

Honestly I haven't been able to make any headway in this regard and it's getting fairly frustrating. It really incentivizes our user base not to write about old players and teams since they never pick up any traction.

Figured I'd check in with you to see if you had any ideas/thoughts. Thanks as always,

    Z

  7. Hey Marty,

At the risk of getting chewed out for not using enough sabremetrics, here's the link to my latest column: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/40034-move-over-barry-bonds-thats-why-i-play-in-center-field-introduction

At the very least, you should enjoy it because one of the Twins' all-time greats made the list.

    Thanks as always,
    Z

  8. The latest Whatnot has been posted. Check it out! Thanks for your contributions!

  9. Hey Twins fans! I've been noticing a huge decrease in contributions to the Twin's Whatnot. I'm not getting after anyone (like I even can :D) , but I want a few suggestions as to changes that can be made.

Please tell me what can be done to improve the section. Should we re-name it? What can be done to make it more attractive to people? Also, I want to confirm that you are actually receiving the questions every Saturday.

Is this the e-mail you would prefer me to send them to? Is there a typo in the email address?

    marty.andrade@gmail.com

    Thanks much!

    ~Andrew

  10. Power Rankings are up! Thanks again and enjoy!

  11. Marty,

Thanks for your answers in the latest Twin's Whatnot. I posted it...*cough* a day late *cough*...sorry.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/26014-MLB-Minnesota-Twins-Whatnot-5-29?just_published=1

  12. I have tried to alter the Secondary Average formula I did the article on so it would better encompass the hitter as a whole. I have had the help of "ramssuperbowl99" on the forum, Footballs Future, and I think we may have something.

    Altered SecA = TB - H + BB + [3/2(SB - CS)] + (RC/G) / AB + (BB/2) + (100*SO%)

It just crunches everything a person needs to know about a hitter when talking fantasy games: slugging, steals, hits, SO rate, run production.

    What do you think?

  13. Thanks for the great answers in the latest Twin's Whatnot.

  14. thank god I have a ready sabermetrician to help me prove my point...I appreciate the back up

  15. I also would like you opinion on a recent article of mine about secondary average. I think this is the first time I've solicited reads, but I would really appreciate it if you would give me your feedback. Should I do this on a more regular basis?
