I am a 17 year old girl from Birmingham, Alabama that has had a love and passion for sports since I was little. Some of the best moments of my life have been at Bryant-Denny or at home watching the game with friends and family. I'll never forget games like Alabama vs. Arkansas (2007) and the games I get to watch with my dad on any given Saturday.

Football is a release for me. It give me that freedom from everyday life and allows me to just be the person that I want to be. At least for a little while. Football at Bryant Denny Stadium is unlike any other football arena. I love getting to know the people and just getting to watch the game. I am one of those girls that loves her football and will watch any game that is on. I love sports in general and they have pretty much become my life.

Writing has always been my release (other than football) and so to get a chance to combine my passion for Alabama Football and my passion for writing is something that I really enjoy and cherish.

First of all, I am now a fan. Happy? :) Second of all, a win in the Iron Bowl would be a great day in the history of my life. Though you may not be expecting any humble pie from me if we do win, for two reasons: 1. I've tasted it many a time this season, and, well, let's just say anyone would prefer apple pie. 2. The overall record is a more telling statistic to base a season on and, no matter what happens, y'all got us on that. Third, best of luck next Saturday. Maybe I'll run into you. I'll be sitting amongst the Tide fans, due to my tickets being from Gedi.

Well, actually you kinda were one time which is why I deleted all my notes from your profile and vice-versa and then stopped conversing with you. I really felt you were being rude that time intentionally or unintentionally. Instead of arguing about that, I just left it like that.

Pleasant surprises is the perfect name for it. Fortunately we're on the side of college football that receives those pleasant surprises (usually at the expense of other teams, suffering unpleasant disappointments).

I agree, Bama's defense was strong the entire game. I wonder what would happen in the Big 12 if a team stepped up with a strong defense like Bama's... Would it slow the offenses? Would the other team be forced to concentrate more on defense than usual?

What's frustrating to me sometimes is, especially this season, Big 12 play has been so much about a race to the finish line offensively; there's never any defense. Like Nebraska's game: 56-28. In any other league (especially the SEC) I would be upset that our opponent was able to put up 28 on us. Instead, I'm just happy we put up 56. Our score was pretty average for Big 12 play, whereas an average SEC score would be something like 17-14.

But I suppose we'll have to see how everything pans out in the end, because all the pundits claim a Big 12 power offense and an SEC strong defense are on a collision course for the national championship. Frankly, I'd rather have a strong defense, but I'm certainly a minority in the Big 12.

Thanks, Cameon! I was really happy with it. 7-4 is a much better record than I expected Nebraska to realistically be and we could possibly go 9-4 with a win against Colorado and a bowl win. I'm VERY proud of my Huskers. :)

Congratulations on the win over Mississippi State! I watched it on ESPN360.com while I watched Oklahoma State and Colorado on ABC. Bama started a little slow, it seemed, but kept churning and produced a very convincing win, from what I saw. It was the most I've been able to watch Bama this season and they look every bit as good as everyone says. It was a good job avoiding the trap game, unlike Penn State.

Now PLEASE beat Florida. I'm tired of hearing about them. ;)

Actually, it was a great game. Yes it was only Troy, but it was what this young team needed, it build confidence and character which is needed for the longterm.

We scored 30 points in the 4th quarter, it was unbelievable.

Haha, Cameon, I simply said that your face was not going to get POTDs. I attributed to your point... While it is a beautiful face, my point rather clearly was not many people in today's superficial world really care about the face. Everyone is just concerned about the rest of your body, because most of those people who would vote POTD based on looks usually are perverted in that sense.. Apparently you took my point in distaste. Sorry for the need to clarify.

Yah, I had read your "closet" fans article. It was really interesting to me because I didn't know much about Alabama other than the main stuff (national championships, Bear Bryant) and I also hate fair-weather fans. It seems like OU fans came out of nowhere in 2000 after they won the national championship and most of those fair-weather fans didn't know anything about Oklahoma's tradition and program. There aren't too many fair-weather Nebraska fans, probably because this whole state is crazy about the Huskers anyway and we haven't been good enough to attract fair-weather fans the last several seasons, haha.

Yah, laundry day is always the worst.

I also take Sundays to watch the NFL as well. I just watched Adrian Peterson nearly single-handedly beat the Packers. He was a phenomenal player in college and is just as impressive in the pros. I agree--football is football and I'll watch it whether it's Toledo-Miami (OH) or Vikings-Packers. I love it with a passion

I respect that you stand behind your team no matter what--there are a lot of people that don't. When their team messes up or loses, they don't stop being fans, but they're quick to jump all over the team and criticize everything. It's been tough to be a Nebraska fan the last few seasons, but I've stuck with them and they're getting better. We'll be back up in the rankings with Bama soon enough, mark my words. ;)

Haha, good point. And I do have tremendous respect for Alabama's program, but knowing that a specific person will be happy or devastated based on the outcome of the game gives it a little more meaning than just "I want Alabama to win because they've got a great program and they're an incredible team." I have a friend who goes to West Virginia, so I like pulling for the Mountaineers when it isn't concerned with Nebraska. The same with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State because I'm from the state and I have tons of friends at both schools. Obviously I'm a Nebraska fan first and foremost, but I'm gonna watch college football all day Saturday anyway so it's nice to have extra reasons to cheer for teams.

And yah, haha, I know I don't really know you, but I know that when Alabama wins you're happy and that gives me that extra reason to cheer for Bama (besides the fact that I want them to win the NC because they're the best team in the country this season).

Yeah. Someone I know went to a Bama game, and they said they couldn't understand what you were saying because of your accents. They said that when you say "Roll Tide Roll" it sounds like "Row Tide Row". Does your accent make the l's sound like w's?

Sorry about the Nascar thing, but when I go to watch ESPN after lunch on Sunday, its Nascar. I can't stand it! The only racing I like is...well...its sort of ridiculous but I like street racing like you see in the movies. I should probably change that...

Also, it should be a given that men hold doors open for women. I thought everyone did it. Whoever doesn't is just a...donkey (you know what I mean).

One more thing, everyone knows that PSU fans are the best. That's why it's called "The Greatest Show in College Football". ;)

I've never been to the South so I just wanted to ask a couple of questions.

Okay, first off, I have heard stereotypes that everyone in the South listens to only country and classic rock. Do you guys listen to rap? Where I live, in the suburbs of Philly, rap is really big. I was just wondering.

Also, do a lot of girls in the South love football like you do? Every girlfriend I had didn't like football...that probably explains why I'm usually single during football season. lol. I don't know one girl around where I live that likes football. If girls down there like football, then I might have to move down there. haha. Seriously, that's like the perfect girlfriend. :)

you know when I read the comment below I thought I pretty much said what I wanted to except for the 1 comment that you took exception to and I thought about deleting it. I didn't and I probably should have.
I deleted that article, i think I got y point across to the one writer who I wanted to and that's good enough for me, I'm sorry so many others got dragged into it. I wasn't asked to by the guys from BR, that's not how they handle things here.
I didn't write it because I hate Alabama, I wrote about the specific actions of 1 person and then support he got (very surprisingly) from others. Like I said before I said something 1 too many times, I don't think that gives people free reign to try and assume the person I am.
I am just a college football fan, nothing more, nothing less. I don't drink or smoke and am probably pretty boring to someone your age. I spend most of my free time working with troubled kids speaking in Jails and treatment centers to adults about still having time to to have a wonderful, satisfying life. I spend my days working for a hedge fund that caters to the philanthropic community and provides a lot of financial aid to organizations specializing in early childhood development.
With that being said I am far from perfect, not even close actually and I am embarrassed that I sunk to the level of some of the people on this site.
SO all of the strories and accusations that is what you have to work with if you want to dig at me. the picture is me at Wrigley field this past summer. I don't need to hide behind any fake names or fake pictures or anything like that as I have nothing to hide. I have a link to my blog and hundreds of bleacher readers and writers visit often and are always welcome and the site was redone 2 months ago but already will be getting an overhaul once the season is over as the gowth has been amazing and really beyond my wildest imagination.
I am sorry if I offended you and the Alabama fans but I didn't make up one word of anything I said, it was all facts or material presented in comments. I don't think the same can be said for other people.

Hi,

I have nothing against you and obviously I don't know you but I think your comments were off base and if you are going to make personal assumptions about someone you better thoroughly investigate every inch of a situation before doing so and I think you may have missed that. What started as maybe a dig at the Alabama program (which I apologized to the author for, you know there is no delete function in the comments) turned into personal attacks on me by several Alabama fans. I have stated nothing unfactual and have not even made one guess, i have only used material presented to me, instead several Alabama fans have decided to turn this into a personal thing and when I refuse to fire back with personal insults they just get more personal. my articles that you have read are in response to this article which if you check the times all happened well before I wrote my articles that you felt the need to comment and make your unfounded assumptions on. By the way, you don't know me and have no right to even guess who i am , what I do or any of that type of thing. If you took any time to find that out before slamming me personally (apparently the "Alabama" thing to do) you would know just how off base you really are.

Yeah, I guess what I mean is it couldn't hurt to be clear that it's aimed at people who have considered themselves fans for years but never actually showed up to games or cared much except for when the team has been good.

I suppose it's fairly clear, but if I was writing it I'd give the new fans a pass. Everybody has to become a fan sometime, so freshmen at the school shouldn't be expected to know everything, for example. They should be expected to be in it for the long haul and keep their convictions even after a bad game, just be excused for dumb questions for a while.

That's my perspective as an outsider to the fan base. I don't have a favorite college football team because my school (Northeastern) is FCS, average at best, and plays off-campus on a field shared with a local high school. It's lame, especially considering how much better the quality of the school's hockey, basketball, and baseball is. I can't get myself to root for BC too much because we have a bit of a rivalry with them in hockey and they act all superior and stuff.

Anyway, point is, I'm open to picking a team to follow, and while I wasn't planning to follow Alabama because it'd feel like a bandwagon jump, I was able to read the article in a similar way to a new fan and felt like it might be good for you to say new fans get a free pass for a while on asking stupid questions, but ask them to please learn quick.

Just a minor thing I wanted to mention since you were lookin' for feedback, thinking just a sentence or two could do the trick, but it's fine as it is, too. I was probably stretching to find something to improve it, haha.

I had already edited that article once upon a time, but I found a minor typo to fix after breezing through it again for you.

I think it was a good editorial with nice pacing to it. The biggest thing with pacing, and one thing that helps in writing in a format like this site has, is to keep track of the length of your sentences and make sure they differ. You don't want too many long sentences, or too many of the same size. Like this:

______________
____________

Instead, you want to have some variation and maybe a sentence fragment here and there to break things up and make it more conversational. Like this:

__________
_________________
___
________

Sorry for the visual adventure, but I think you see what I mean.

I noticed you did this pretty well by having a stretch like this: "Is the Tide good enough to win? Sure. It's as good as it wants to be, and has proven here in the last few games it is here to play some football." (I will warn, though, that "here to play some football" can become an overused expression that doesn't actually mean that much when you think about it, so try not to lean on it too much.)

I think it's good to keep in mind how that pacing can really work on a site like this where you want to make your writing like a discussion rather than an essay. Let me know if you were looking for feedback geared more toward what you wrote *about* rather than how you wrote it, but either way I hope that helps.
