Hey Andrew - The thing about Dylan is that he has been an artist for a lifetime and he has a lifetime of work from which to choose...depending on your mood and your inclination. I went through the early stuff and it is nice to revisit it from time to time..."lay lady lay" or "like a rollin' stone." great stuff, really. I happen to like the "Basement Tapes" recorded with The Band of late. Plus I have been stuck on "Changin' of the Guard" and that sound...i love the violin in his recording of the "Hurricane" about Rubin Carter...haunting in the background...like another voice...

He keeps experimenting...and growing. i guess i like his lyrics as much as his music--although you really cannot separate the two because when i listen to another artist do his work, i miss his voice...

Long has his work cut out for him - although he shared "Moonlight Sonata" and who wouldn't love that? I am waiting patiently for a copy of S&M by Metallica that he swears i will love!

Long is trying to educate me about classical music - and i happen to love Bob Dylan - world's apart. Maybe the distance between tennis and baseball!

Hi Andrew - we have spoken - i was intrigued by your latest article about truth and beauty so decided to check it out...liked it a lot and your sense of humor...I see you are into baseball...ok, I can relate to that pastime. I am a Big 10 Football fan and have been working on my latest article about the Iowa Hawkeyes--yes, you heard correctly...i am a Hawkeye fan and a former outpatient from the Iowa Writers Workshop...The Pac 10 has always been a thorn in the side of any Big 10 fan because of the Rose Bowl, although with the current BCS system, it doesn't always work out that way anymore...

I am sorry you prefer Sampras to Federer because I have quite a thing for Federer. Most of my tennis articles lean toward Federer and that sort of drives Long crazy at times, although he pretends it doesn't!

Long always introduces me to the best people! He has such good instincts about the human race. Just a note to all community leaders. I'm trying to collect e-mails. I have most of them from when we did the awards, but If it's changed since then, or you are new to the team, make sure we're cool on the e-mail.

With Free Agency starting tomorrow, we should probably be thinking offseason plans. I encourage everyone to put up some sort of preview for their own team. Highlight some needs, maybe look at who your team has on the market, or potential targets. If enough people get in on it, I'll post a collective article to highlight everyone's work.

If your a new community leader, welcome aboard. If you've been around, make sure you go around, become a fan of some of the other CL's and support each other. We're a team here!

This is going to be my final response to you on this and so let me just lay it out here.

I apologized for what I said. You're welcome. Yet you never acknowledge calling me a little bitch, which is basically slandering me. So I really don't know what to tell you there.

And let me just be specific about my roster comment. The team isn't close to what it was in 2005. Nate Schierholtz might as well be Todd Linden 2.0 considering he isn't getting any playing time. What I meant is that these young players right now need to be evaluated and not lumped into what the team has done in the Alou regime. Sabean hired Bochy because of what he did with young players in San Diego and thought that the situation is a lot like what happened with the Pads, which it kinda is.

So, if you still hold this against, I'm not going to try and change your mind. I reacted without thinking and if you still think I'm scum, go ahead.

And I delete a lot of things on my board. It's not just you.

I did go about it in the wrong way and I'm sorry for that. I just thought it was a little weird for you to say that the fans have had enough of losing when, for the large part, the roster is completely different than it was two years ago. Obviously, I shouldn't have said it. But come on dude, saying after you called me out on something that I didn't agree with you on I "then cut and ran like a bitch" isn't mature either. Hey Andrew - Thanks for the comment and support.

I actually have never quite heard the plight of the Browns (or any Cleveland team) fan expressed so well - ironic, considering you aren't a fan of the team or a resident of the city.

I also appreciated you pointing out that you do not follow the Browns. Still, as an outside observer, your takes were spot on. People who would react angrily about your article are in denial about the state of the team or are just abject homers.

At any rate, I'd be happy to debate you anytime, especially when it comes to the Buckeyes! They (and college football) are my biggest passion, but writing about the Browns takes up most of my free time, and living in Pittsburgh, I often don't get to see all of the games. Of course, there's no debate about the sad state of UM football these days.

We seem to be cut from the same cloth. Will Clark was a hero of mine growing up. I played first base, batted lefty, and wore eye black just to be like him. But I could never match that sweet, sweet swing.

Ironically I'm also from a public school system (Indiana) and go to a public university (Northern Illinois) so the whole "do it on your own" thing isn't new to me either.

Andrew, I certainly didn't meant to imply that if you vote for Obama, you're a fool. I'm sorry if that's how it came across. I just don't see how his inexperience will help him in dealing with politicians who may be shifty but are also very street smart and will know how to play him like a banjo. As for McCain, I'm not going by what he's saying only - unlike Obama, he actually has a long track record in the senate to go by. He was known as the "maverick" for a reason - he didn't alwats vote along party lines. In fact, a lot of Republicans didn't trust him because he's actually a moderate, not very conservative and definately didn't always follow other republicans. Now having said that, who you vote for is your decision and I certainly am not one to say anything bad about someone just because they disagree with me.

Very true. I'm not saying Pacman is a saint. Its just when Whitlock wrote that article, the facts weren't even known. No one was in the ER or in a tombstone for that matter. I read his article and a reader would think that Pacman actually did something with his insinuations.

I understand the Spears analogy as well. She is quite the piece of work. From the facts I gathered, it appears that they were jacking around and a vase was broken. Then another somebody says Pacman attacked a guy in the bathroom. Now which was it? I felt that Pacman should have been written about, but only until the facts were clear.

I am an extremely passionate Cowboy yes. But I do believe that if Pacman had been on another team I still would have written this article. It is one thing to say that Pacman is in trouble, and it is another to insinuate that the crime of the century has happened.

Maybe you misunderstood me about my family's salary. I think they make about 125k a year. You may be right about McCain, but Obama is unable to back up anything he says. He hasn't been in politics for long, so no one can really tell if he actually supports what he says. Also, I'm sure you've heard this a million times but Obama is unable to make a decision. In Congress, Obama voted over 200 times present instead of yes or no on a bill or decision. I personally think that there should be a liable third party that balances out these two extremes, which will never happen. For the rest of our lives, we will have to deal with the country going back and forth to extremes and having our country go back and forth in every position that they have on every topic in the world.

Sooner or later, the United States will have to fall because they can't keep switching between two different extremes. Some people may argue that switching constantly from conservative to liberal makes a balance, but I say that switching too much and not having a candidate who is more moderate is not good for this country. I did not really like Bush as a President, but I do support the war because I don't want to pull out until Iraqis can take care of themselves, especially because Americans died trying to accomplish this and I don't want them to die in vain. Bush also instilled a few programs that could work in the long run, (but probably won't), and he did lower taxes on my family, which gave us some extra money over the past 8 years.

Either way, the economy won't be fixed so most of us are screwed anyway, or at least we'll have a tighter budget. It doesn't matter anyway because Obama is going to win because 2 out of 3 Americans that say their main issue is the economy blame Republicans for the bad economy, and so they won't vote for McCain. As long as stocks keep falling, McCain has no shot of winning. However, some people will say they support Obama but will end up not voting him because he is African American. It is a sad thing to realize, but you know that this is reality and it will happen. I don't think those inner-racist people will be enough to shift the election, though.

Actually, my parents both work full time and bring in around just about that much. I'm only a sophomore in High School and I do know about politics. My parents barely have enough money for me to attend one year of college in an in-state school. If Obama becomes president, I am screwed. I am also conservative and agree with McCain and Palin on many issues, but right now my main issue is getting into Penn State main campus. I have the grades to get in but I need the money.

My parents income will be dropping from around 55-60% of what they make to 40-45% of what they make. Once they pay off all their bills and buy clothes and food and other necessities, there is not much money for them to put into the savings account. Neither candidate will be able to stop the economy, but I do respect people who are optimistic and say that they will. My parents and relatives have a lot of money in stocks, which also worries me deeply.

Both candidates will shove some bs in everyone's head and then when they become president they will impose their will. Also, Bush was able to get everything he wanted because both Senate and the House were Republican. Obama, if he becomes president, will be put in the same situation. Many Democrats in Congress may just let him do what he wants, some decisions will be good and some will be awful. I'm just not sure if our country can afford to take that chance again. This country was made for a balance of power, and having all liberals running the country is no better than having all conservatives running the country.

Also, some of those stats may be true, but you have to remember that either candidate can take stats out of proportions or lie, and make anything seem one way or another. Maybe they aren't the greatest candidates, but honestly, what has Barack Obama accomplished in his political career? Nothing. McCain went against his party on many issues and was a maverick. Now, apparently, he is not a maverick because he ended up being right on those issues and now everyone agrees with him. Since everyone agrees with him, his ideas are mainstream and he is no longer considered a maverick! What bull! I'd rather have a politician who is experienced and sometimes even goes against his own party and has morals and ethics over an inexperienced man who praises change but will have too much to handle, from "global warming" and the economy to Russia, and will most likely crack under the pressure from all these situations.

However, this is a sports site so I will no longer talk about politics.

Yeah I'm glad everything's cleared up now. I'm really pulling for Rodgers too: obviously because I'm a Packers fan, but also because being injury prone was his biggest knock from the experts this offseason. It's a game time decision right now. Atlanta's rushing game is also on my concern list; the Packers' rush defense is horrendous! I hope they can get it together after two consecutive losses.

Hey man I really appreciate the way you handled responding to something I said in a very civil way. Honestly I didn't even read the other comments on James' article so I wasn't responding to anyone. In a way I regret stating anyone who thinks Romo is overrated should never give another opinion again, it's arguable. Yes, he did fumble a snap against Seattle. Yes, he didn't play his best game against the Giants (BTW-I'm referring to the playoff losses that many people were talking about). I could get into plenty more detail about why I think it could go either way but I don't want to take up your whole day/night. Thanks for the comment.

Holy crap!! I just read everything--you two were in quite the debate about this.

I left him the comment b/c I think that Romo is a good QB. Do I think he is the best? No. I don't care what anyone says I would take Brady, Manning, and Favre in his old age over TR....But I do think that Romo gets too critisized for things that don't matter to the game (ie:Jessica). I've met Tony once before and that guy is the most laid back athlete I have ever met.

I appreciate where you are coming from. I just read both of your articles. You have an awesome way of wording things...honestly. You don't retort to name calling--but yet you have a good way of adding insult without stepping over the boundary. You plead you case well....and I do think you are unbias.

With that said---I got POTD but still under 1000 reads? How is that possible? I need to find a way to get more looks on my article....I figured with a title like USC SUCKS--I would get thousands of reads....

Loosing sux, no doubt. Especially to the Redskins. But, if your gonna loose (as everyone does) tis far better to loose in September than in January or Feb (ask the Patriots about that one). I saw what being the best team in the NFC gets you last year (13-3 = jack nothing). It's not important to be the best team every week, its important to be the best team the LAST week (again, ask the Patriots). I chalk it up to PEAKING too soon.. I think the Cowboys peaked too soon last year and in fact have done so a few years in a row. It's a rare occassion when the the best team in September wins the Super Bowl.

Oh, and sorry about Barry. I actually lived in San Francisco for some time back in the day, but c'mon... the guy -- look at his size before and after he allegedly started taking steroids. I mean, his head right now is about the same size as a medium-heavy sized pumpkin. Seriously. But anyway, he was undoubtedly a great player.

Regardless of your allegiance, you write well. You can also take heart in knowing that even though my NFL lowest of lows came at the hands of your team, at the moment, I have no ill feelings towards them. It's strange how a few poor seasons strung together can humble even the most raucous of fans.
