Steph Curry Slams 'Twitter Fingers' for Warriors Trade Talk amid NBA Deadline Rumors

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry reiterated his belief in the roster as constructed ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.

Following Wednesday's 116-115 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Curry said on SportsCenter that "all the Twitter fingers who's got deals that we need to make can kind of shut up a little bit and let us figure this thing out."

The two-time MVP also pushed back on the idea he's necessarily content "being on an average basketball team."

Curry, teammate Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr have all echoed the same general sentiment in recent days. They all believe it would be counterproductive to leverage the Warriors' best remaining trade assets in a deal that probably wouldn't raise the franchise's ceiling to a significant degree.

It's a pretty frank assessment and one that paints a realistic picture of Golden State's situation. The team is 20-20 and 10th in the Western Conference, and its fate is tied to two stars, Curry and Green, who continue to play well but are no longer at their peak.

In the present market, there simply isn't one single trade that will turn the Warriors into a top contender overnight. And giving up young forward Jonathan Kuminga or valuable draft capital if the ultimate return is reaching the second round of the playoffs.

This all reflects how discourse around the NBA is increasingly wrapped around the idea that a team can only exist in one of two states. You're either pushing for a title or you're rebuilding. There's no glamor to be had in simply qualifying for the playoffs or being a fading dynasty in which your remaining legends are winding down their careers.

Sure, it would be great if Curry and Green led Golden State to another title, but there's still joy to be had in watching them try to lift the Warriors into the postseason while helping build the bridge to the next generation.

It sounds like that's what Curry and Green are content to do at this stage of their careers.
