Deputy Managing Editor

About the Role:

B/R Mag is Bleacher Report’s made-for-mobile sports and culture magazine for millennial sports fans. The Deputy Managing Editor will oversee, assign and edit a nimble, high-impact, high-quality “Trending” team of writers devoted to reported, distinctive and inter-sectional content for "off-the-news" stories on sports and sports-culture topics. You will also work in collaboration with other departments across the company to help implement the best design, social promotion and packaging for B/R Mag.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with B/R Mag editors, sport-by-sport editors, Editor-in-Chief and the programming department to ensure blanket coverage that contributes meaningful traffic on B/R owned-and-operated platforms but also takes on a life of its own as shareable content across platforms.

• Spark ideas, enthusiasm and energy to help "own" sports moments and shape the editorial voice of B/R going forward.

• Identify and plan coverage for current and future sports and culture events/moments accordingly; exude top-notch news discernment in deciding what trending/O+O content should be produced.

• Assist in the development of writers (reporting and writing) and brand voice; ensure writers feel supported and productive.

• Work closely with B/R Mag editors to allow resources from the "Trending" team to create built-if-sold and packaged content as well as more involved features and contributions to planned-event coverage.

 

Requirements:

• Editorial management experience a must

• 4-5 years experience of editing high-volume/robust digital content

• Extensive knowledge of internet sports culture

• Collaborative personality with the ability to develop strong relationships

• Experience in longform editing

• Basic web publishing skills a plus

Executive Director, Content Development

About the Role:

The Executive Director, Content Development is responsible for leading all ideation and creation of IP for Video Shows, Animated Series and annual Content Tentpoles to achieve brand, audience and revenue objectives. We are looking for an experienced candidate with a proven track record of developing content aimed at young audiences, preferably in digital media and sports culture. This individual will identify opportunities and generate creative solutions, working very closely with the Sr. Director of IP/Video Execution to ensure the launch of vehicles that solve audience and business challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of content strategists and ideators to develop ideas into viable proofs of concept.
  • Develop a deep understanding of B/R's content strategy and capabilities to help shape the aesthetic for video.
  • Embrace data/analytics about the types of content and themes the audience is consuming
  • Spearhead a culture of creativity and innovation, and develop progressive formats and execution paths.
  • Bring in and take pitches from outside producers and production companies.
  • Collaborate effectively and leverage the full breadth of B/R's storytelling resources.
  • Manage and communicate the flow of information to executive management, content leadership, ad sales, and business development teams on strategy and day-to-day execution.
  • Occasionally attend shoots (may require travel)

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience developing show concepts.
  • Proven track record of developing content aimed at young audiences.
  • Experience leading creative teams or talent collaborations.
  • In-depth understanding of the digital media industry (preferably sports and sports culture) with strong editorial/content sensibilities.
  • Ability to independently evaluate white space and ideate content concepts that address strategic business opportunities.
  • Outgoing and collaborative personality with the ability to develop strong relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Sr. Social Producer (Predictive)

About the role:

The Senior Social Producer for the Social Moments Predictive team will be responsible for leading the day-to-day coverage of all of the  team’s predictive content executions

Responsibilities:

  • Developing creative and original content executions tied to sports and pop culture narratives
  • Working 1-2 months in advance to prepare highly visible social executions
  • Collaborate with designers to create graphics and advanced video executions
  • Provide creative direction to guide content though the back end of production

Requirements:

  • Must have previous editorial and social media experience in sports news
  • Must have experience managing large sports brand social media accounts
  • 3+ years experience in journalism/sports
  • Must have extensive knowledge of internet sports culture
  • Experience in leading small teams is preferred
  • Experience executing creative multimedia projects with a team
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays
