I don't understand what the Jets plan on doing this season.
In two seasons as gang-green's head coach, the Mangenius is batting under .500 so far, and the Patriots have shown no signs of slowing down.
Couple that with the fact that New York's favorite football coach has taken over the reigns of AFC East rival Miami, and Buffalo finished three games ahead of the Jets last season (beating them twice), you have to wonder how Mangini's crew plans on not finishing in the division cellar.
New York used its first-round draft pick on Ohio State's Vernon Gholston, who in my estimation is Johnathan Vilma in a three-point stance. Gholston may be a productive player, but currently, in the eyes of many football pundits, the jury is still out on the former Buckeye who has been accused of being a little on the lazy side. In Mangini's 3-4 defensive scheme, Gholston needs to be playing linebacker.

The Jets then waited until the sixth round to draft a wide receiver, deciding to first shore-up their already crowded tight-end roster, and bring in yet another quarterback with a weak arm in Tennessee's Erik Ainge.
The Jets then decided to add Musa Smith to the glutton of running backs on the roster, and hired Bill Callahan...(Bill Callahan?!) to coach some part of the offense, although I have no idea what he could actually bring to the table.
Do the Jets plan on running a pro-set offensive scheme this season? I mean, they have to do something with all of those running backs and tight ends...right?
How does Callahan's knowledge of the running game, or lack thereof, benefit the offense?
Since the Jets drafted Ainge, is Chad trade bait? Shouldn't he be? It's not like the Jets didn't already have three QBs on the roster, and there's a reason that Pennington was benched in favor of Kellen Clemens last year. Chad can't get the ball downfield when he's healthy enough to even be on the field.
It is very possible that the Jets are becoming New York's football version of the Knicks. Just bringing in big names that sound good, but do not actually fit any real, winning formula or scheme.
The most exciting news out of Jets camp has been the fact that fashion designer Marc Ecko has taken over as designer and consultant for the Jets' cheerleading squad, "The Flight Crew". The roster of that group has jumped from 10 members in 2007 to 22 for the upcoming season.
"You (ladies) are a part of history..." Crew Director Denise Garvey told 52 finalists for the 22 roster spots.
At least somebody in the Jets organization plans on making history this season.

I think it's a little exciting right now. The Jets have made so many confusing moves this offseason, no one really knows what to expect from them. Maybe they bust out some three-TE sets. They've become the NFL's Kim Jong Il, absolutely crazy and you never know what's going to happen. Maybe this comes together and they go 11-5. Or 5-11. Either way, I can't wait to see what they do next.

I think they had a great draft. Gholston was a perfect pick, since they got rid of Vilma and needed a playmaker on defense. They have 3 perfectly fine receivers that get the job done in McCarens, Cotchery, and Coles. They have a prominent O-Line that will rank top in the league this year. TE was a position that they could improve.

This wouldn't happen to be NYJ Ecko of TGG fame, would it?

Wow, can this article be any more biased? I can tell you are a patriots fan.......
But anyways the whole part about the relation to knicks and bringing in big name free agents who don't fit......for your info buddy, all the guys we signed in the offseason fit NEED positions. Alan Faneca fills a HUGE hole at LG, Damien Woody at RT, Calvin Pace to replace Victor Hobson, Kris Jenkins to fill the hole at NT, and Tony Richardson to fill in at FB.
Unlike other teams in the past such as the redskins, the Jets are signing big name FAs to fill NEED positions.
Vernon Gholston will bring eventually replace Bryan Thomas to bring that force off the edge the Jets haven't had in a longggggggggg time.
So to answer your question, yes, the Jets have a plan, and it is to become a grind it out team, with a pounding run game, and a dominating defense which ranked in the top 10 the 2nd half of last season. We probably won't beat out the Patriots, but we should be able to earn a WC berth. Just watch.....with our cakewalk schedule, we should be able to manage 9-7.

As far as Pennington goes, I agree. He clearly is NEVER going to be the QB that gets us to (and through) the 'Big Game' . For some reason there appears to be (and has been for a long time) some strange form of denial in the New York Jets administration on this subject. Lets face it, Pennington, at best is a REALLY GOOD.............. back-up QB. Same goes for Clemmens and Ainge.
But here is the six million dollar question: In the current climate..........what choice do we have?
Who is a legitamate available alternative?

Woooooooooo.............slo-yer-roll there partner. I have no problems with the transactions they've made this off-seeason. I completely get what they are doing with their picks. I also get what they're doing with their free agent signings.
What I dont get is why the Jets (and fans like you) seem to have an un-ending number of excuses for Chad.
Is Chad good when he's healthy? .............not bad. Sure I'll give you that. But thats only about 10% of the time. And even when he is healthy, he still doesnt have a 'long-ball'.
Look, I like Chad. I really do. He has some talent. But the bottom line is this:
The Jets will NEVER WIN A SUPERBOWL WITH CHAD AS THEIR QUARTERBACK.
Thats just the cold, hard truth. It stings........I know. Because Chad is a nice guy, and tries hard. But if you've ever been in Management, you'll realize that every once in a while you have an employee who shows up everyday on time, tries really hard, but at the end of the day, just isn't working out. And you have to let them go. Its tough decision, but it has to be made.
Jet need to start looking for a 'Real' quarterback.

First of all I despise the Patriots, so whoever it was that made that comment didn't get the story. Secondly, I have been Chad's biggest fan for years, but the injuries have taken their toll on his already weak arm. MaCarens? Crotchery? Are you serious? With the receivers that the Bills and Pats have, our best WR is the speedy but undersized Coles. Aside form Coles the Jets receiving corp has been abysmal ever since Chrebet hung up his cleats. The Jets moves might be of substance if they were in the NFC North or West, but in the AFC East they just don't cut it.
We needed an impact receiver more than anything else in this draft. We should've traded the pick for a big target for Clemmens to throw at next year. Gholston won't help us outscore the Pat or Bills, and our problem last season was being able to put points on the scoreboard.
I don't see where we've made any ground on the Pats or the Bills and it looks like the Fins may even overtake us.
