After months of speculation, the inevitable has happened. Martin Jol and his assistant Chris Hughton got the boot on Thursday just before their match against Getafe in the UEFA Cup.
He couldn't wind up his career at Spurs with a high though, as his side stumbled yet again to the Spanish side who won 1-2.
The hot favorite to take over Jol has been Ramos, and he couldn't refuse the lucrative offer of 7 million pounds per season.
He's due to arrive on Saturday with his assistants and agree some personal terms with Spurs. So, with Ramos at the helm, can Spurs see light at the end of the tunnel?
To answer that, lets assess his portfolio.
He began his manegarial career from 1993 with a Segunda Division side Alcoyano but in the wind to his Sevilla days, he hasn't revelled in great success at several other clubs including Espanyol, Betis and Malaga.

In his maiden season at Sevilla, he won the UEFA Cup 2005-06 by thrashing Middlesborough 4-0. Moreover, They finished the season in 5th place and in the following season they qualified for the Champions League. They were pretty much in contention to take the La Liga title by surprise, but Real Madrid had the stronger bid.
However, more accolades came along as he clinched the UEFA Super Cup, and finished the season with a Cop del Rey title by beating Getafe. What more? He clinched the UEFA Cup for the second consecutive seasons by beating La Liga rivals Espanyol on penalties.
So, a treble if you like, but not a momentous one. Nevertheless, Martin Jol never went close to Ramos' kudos, though he was on the brink of taking Spurs to the Champions League a couple of seasons back.
Still another question remains.
Is Spurs his type of club and can he repeat his phenomenal records here?
When Spurs are in red hot form, they deserve to play in the Champions League- a feat which they missed by the skin of their teeth when the succumbed to Arsenal on the last day of the season.
This season has been downtrodden for the Londoners, as Jol can't gel his side in the winning ways. Only a 4-0 win was what they could record, and we all know what followed next. He had rows with Defoe and Berbatov over their place in the starting 11,where they successfully got into on the last day of Jol at London.
He signed in promising players like Gareth Bale and Kaboul, but the winning formula was missing.
Although Ramos, on the other side, has had a nightmare start to the domestic season and the Champions League, he has left the club with a safer position now. He's renowned for his tenacity and committment, which the Spurs fan can hope will guide them towards a dazzling prospect ahead.

I'm not sure Ramos will be able to do any better than Jol did at Spurs. It always takes foreign coaches a while to wake up see what the EPL is all about.
I doubt Spurs will make Europe this season so it may be difficult for Ramos to attract great players next summer but we shall have to see.

Our chance of making Europe through the league are somewhere between none and impossible! We've given the competition too much of a head start, no matter what kind of run we go on.
To make Europe we need to win a domestic cup (have you seen the stats for the last 10 years? It'll be tough!) or win UEFA, but with Bayern amongst others making the UEFA Cup very strong this season I hate to say it, but our chances of Europe are slim.
Can Ramos be a success? Who knows. I hope so as a Spurs supporter, but it's always a risk when a foreign manager comes in. Will he turn out like Wenger, Mourinho or Benitez, or more of a Gross, Santini or Ardiles (notice the link there!)?
Time will tell.

Of course its going to take some time for Ramos to get settled in London, and even more blood, sweat, and tears is required to bring Spurs back to their former glory, but if i was Ramos id been feeling the pressure already, as Tottenham's board of directors are a fickle lot(considering they were ready to sack Jols after only a few games into the season-probably) and if he fails to get good results, he'll be joining Jols pretty quick. Personally, if im a manager and am considering taking on a club with directors and an owner who are anything like Tottenham's bunch, I'd definitely think twice about taking the job.

Ramos is aware of the daunting task ahead of him. Spurs fans will be anticipating a UEFA cup spot, as he will take the charge from next week. But they must be more than happy if they survive relegation or finish in the top half of the table.
