How long until ESPN's Jemele Hill calls for Don Imus to be fired again?
First of all, Imus hasn’t been relevant since the '80s (coincidentally, when he was in his 80s). Stop pretending anyone cares about anything he says.
He’s 100-years-old. He looks like he’s been dead for 15 years, and he wears a stupid cowboy hat.
The ridiculous uproar over his “Nappy” comment is what temporarily brought him back to relevance. Now that he’s slipped back into obscurity, he’s using “controversy" to make his way back into the spotlight.
I don’t care what color Pacman Jones is—and I certainly don’t care if some old has-been is making racist jokes about him on the radio. It’s a free market. If you don’t like it, don’t listen.
Calling for Imus to be fired, getting Al Sharpton involved, boycotting his sponsors...it’s a waste of time. Worse than that, it gives him exactly what he wanted: renewed relevance.
The only way Don Imus should ever make the front page of ESPN is if he’s been killed by O.J. Simpson.
Speaking of Pacman...sorry...Adam Jones, he was apparently very upset with Imus.
"I'm truly upset about the comments," Jones told the Dallas News. "Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly."
I wonder what Pacman expects the station to do to Imus?
Remember, this is a guy who thought a one-year suspension for punching a stripper in the face, starting a brawl that ended with a member of his crew shooting someone, biting a cop, and resisting arrest was too harsh. Given that, you have to wonder what he thinks “handles it accordingly” means.
- B/R Ticket Guide
A $25 fine? That might be a little too harsh. WNBA season tickets? Forcing him to participate in a champagne shower with Javon Walker?
Speaking of Javon Walker, is there any doubt that he’s become the dumbest professional athlete this side of John Rocker? You’d think the experience of watching a friend and teammate die in his arms would scare some common sense into him. I guess not.
But the greater question here is this—is spraying champagne over a crowded club really worth all of the apparent hassle? Friends get shot and you get abducted, beaten, and robbed.
Plus, isn’t that crap almost as expensive as a gallon of gas?
My guess is that some lawyer is getting ready to take just about all of the money Marshawn Lynch got from the Bills after being drafted.
There's a lesson here. If you’re rich, you don’t run people over. If you do run someone over, that person will be rich. You, in turn, will be less rich.
It’s a lesson that should be taught to all NFL rookies. I’d say NBA rookies, but they get rich during their one year in college.
I didn’t buy it when Andy Pettitte said it. I didn’t buy it when Rodney Harrison said it. I don’t buy it now that Terry Bradshaw is saying it.
Saying “I only used steroids/HGH to help get over an injury” is the new millennium's version of “I only hit it once, but I didn’t inhale.”
This isn’t NFL related, but was brought to my attention by a friend of mine. Bill Simmons has a Wikipedia page. Jay Mariotti has a Wikipedia page. Even Woody freaking Paige has his own Wikipedia page.
So naturally, I’m wonder why I don’t have my own Wikipedia page. You search for my name on Wikipedia and you find some schlub politician from Ireland. Clearly I’m more important (read: popular) than that guy.
Someone needs to create a Wikipedia page about me. If this were to happen, I would have officially accomplished everything I set out to do in life.
1) See Patriots win a Super Bowl, Red Sox win a World Series, and Celtics win an NBA Championship
2) Write for a popular sports web site
3) Be interviewed on a nationally syndicated radio show
4) Have my own page on Wikipedia
I’ve completed three out of four. If someone were to make that last one happen, I’d make it a point to mention his or her name in every column I write until the end of time.
In closing, a quick message to Giants fans:
Jeremy Shockey wants out, Michael Strahan retired, Plaxico Burress wants more money, Ahmad Bradshaw is currently sitting in a jail cell somewhere, and Tiki Barber has a new ice cream flavor named after him.
In other words, celebrate your Super Bowl hard.
Talk a ton of smack. Have another glass of champagne. Pull a Javon Walker and spray some all over the patrons at your neighborhood bar.
Do all this while you still can. Because next season has 8-8 written all over it...

Why doesn't Sean Crowe create the Sean Crowe Wikipedia page?
from 4 months ago
Because that would make me just slightly better than the B-List movie star who pays for his own Hollywood Walk-of-Fame Star.
It's way better to beg someone else to do it for me...
Right?
from 4 months ago
Because that would make his name Kathy Griffin.

Awesome comments, one and all!
The article was like listening to a stoner talk, it had so many tangents. Having been one of those guys in my past, I enjoyed that, too!
I would say that Imus is the only guy who can make Jones sympathetic. Jones should send him Christmas cards for that. And his "explanation" was so poorly presented and hollow...it's like the San Jose Mercury News said in the Morning Buzz: either he's a racist and should be ignored, or he's an idiot (if he actually thinks Jones' attention isn't being brough on by Jones) and he should be ignored.

I love how Al Sharpton is the "authority" in any race related issue. He recently stated that he's "looking into" the Don Imus comments. That's hilarious to me. Uh yeah, okay, Al. You do that and report back to us asap because we are so anxious to hear your skewed view on the matter.
Sean, didn't last years Giants team have 8-8 written all over them? After last seasons SB debacle I'm far more worried about a mediocre .500 team than any juggernaut.
from 4 months ago
Last year's Giants team had something going for them that nobody expected: The Patriots tightened up and for the first time in the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era they failed to rise up to the moment.
I'm not worried about next year's 8-8 team. I'm far more worried about next year's San Diego Chargers team...

I saw a picture of this Don Imus guy and I wondered:
a) Who is he, and
b) I guess, for radio, there's no such thing as looking "too dead". I'd give this guy the next decade off.
I also heard that Pacman would "pray" for Imus. Man is the NFL fun!

Don Imus was big before Howard Stern came around. Howard Stern has been around since...what? The mid-eighties (I don't know, I'm guessing).
So if this were 1985, and he said something like this, then yes...it would be relavent. But in 2008? Who cares? He has one foot in the grave and the other on a patch of ice anyway....

This article was absolutely hilarious! I really hope you're 4 for 4 soon, Sean!

It's amazing that Al Davis isn't the stupidest guy in the Raiders organization anymore.
from 4 months ago
Al Davis isn't stupid, he's senile.
It's also possible that he's been legally dead since 2003.
from 4 months ago
Don Imus looks like he's been dead for longer than Al Davis...

Great read Sean! I enjoyed it up to then last part about the NY Giants. When I read that I stopped enjoying your article....and fell in love with it! LOL!
Great stuff with some really good points, too.

Don Imus made no mistakes in saying what he did. Black people get arrested frequently with or without cause. It's a fact people. Thats what he was saying.
from 4 months ago
Come on. Did you listen to the comments or just read his explanation?
That's not what he meant. That was his "quick thinking" excuse...
from 4 months ago
Come on, I'm sure that's what he meant all along...

Don Imus --> possibly a racist, definitely an idiot:

Sean, what a silly article. I see it as pretty pointless. You call this news? A news report about something that was never news at all about a guy who delivers news and opinions. The days of lynching ANYONE are over... society really has to stop with this politically correct crap. He's not a idiot either Brian. It's his J-O-B to get people talking about him and his show so that in turn they might tune in, to hear what he says next. The man shared a clear opinion for anyone with half a brain, and past racist experiences. Intentionally I might add.
from 4 months ago
Holy crap. Let me sum this up for you again. I'll try to do it slowly, so you understand this time.
I. Do. Not. Care. What. Imus. Said.
Good or bad, racist or not, I don't care. He's a has-been. He's been a has-been for so long, that to most people under 50 he's a never-was. I didn't care about the nappy comment, I don't care about this comment.
But to pretend it was anything less than an unfunny racist joke is naive and stupid. My only problem with the comment is that it wasn't funny. At least the nappy-haired comment was relatively funny.
Besides, your stupid excuse for what he said doesn't even hold water...unless you truly believe that Pacman Jones is innocent and just the victim of constant police harassment because he's black.
If you're going to make a "they're only picking on him because of his skin color" comment, at least use it on someone who's innocent...like OJ.
He is innocent, until proven guilty. And besides that I honestly believe he could legitimately be innocent but that's the work of lawyers, not you and I. But you raise an interesting point. Lets go have a intergalactic discussion where we search the cosmos for future truths. Give me a break guy.

Sean ill create a wikipedia page for you but you have to let me use the Jesus Buddy as your photo. I wouldnt know you any other way. Nice article. Imus is a waste of human skin.
from 4 months ago
Of course you can use the Buddy Christ as my photo...I wouldn't have it any other way.

I wikipedia'd (i really don't know how to use that like the word googled) you and found that there is a Sean Crowe who has an accent over the "a" who does have a wikipedia page.
"Seán Crowe (Irish: Seán Mac Concradhá; born 1957) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician and former Teachta Dála (TD) for Dublin South West."
That is how it starts, thought you would enjoy, if you want, you can call it close enough.
from 4 months ago
Just thought of something else...
What would be REALLY cool is if someone edited the fake Sean Crowe's Wikipedia page and added "Not as cool as the real Sean Crowe" at the end.
THAT would be fantastic.
Absolutely not.
Why does HE get a Wikipedia page and not me?
1) I have the Buddy Christ on my side.
2) I have 119 fans, which is 23 more than the entire population of Dublin South West (I've been told).
3) I came within 23 picks of nailing the first round of the NFL draft this season....can he say the same thing? I think not.
Clearly I deserve a Wiki page more than he does... :)

Great article! You really are talented with your words! How someone can write an article on two complete losers and really say something good? I'm impressed! Pacman and Imus, these two would make good lightning rods. The only problem is the poor lightning would have trouble figuring which one to strike!

As a representative of Javon Walker and the Raider Nation, we would like to go on record and rephrase your bad choice of words of calling him stupid... and change it to Irresponsible. Were not happy with his decision making but don’t turn on the fact that he was a victim of criminal behavior. It appears as if your held in high regards here at bleacher report Crowe so I wont be so harsh, but to go on record and call a player who just experienced such a terrible incident, that really troubles me that you could be so careless and thoughtless. Just because your article just offended me doesn’t mean im going to take you somewhere...beat the crap out of you and leave you die; only for you to wake up in a hospital lucky to be alive to finding out everybody is calling you stupid for writing this article, looking away from the fact that you were just a victim of criminal behavior.
Why? Because its your God given right to write this article, just as it was for Javon to choose to be in Vegas partying. It was a stupid choice, but he's not a stupid guy. I like the word... unlucky. But we...the Raider Nation, the Oakland Raider Organization and all our players believe in Javon and he WILL turn things around and become a star WR. Nobody deserves what was done to him; Robbed, left bleeding to die in an alley, and for you to call him stupid for it speaks volumes upon your character. But i dont know, maybe you meant something different...maybe like that idiot Imus apparently did.
God Bless America and Long live the Raider Nation
from 4 months ago
Always fun to hear from Raider Nation. I'm glad that being held in high regard at Bleacher Report frees me from the death threats I used to get from your brethren. I certainly didn't misspeak. I wrote the headline, which pretty much speaks for itself. But I appreciate being given the opportunity to Don Imus myself.
To your point, my comment certainly wasn't about his choice to be in Vegas partying. I agree, he has every right to do that. I'm hoping to do that myself sometime in the not too distant future.
Look, when you go into a club and spray everyone in the crowd with champagne, and the end result is a friend and teammate dying in your arms....that's tragic and perhaps irresponsible.
When you go and do it again, and the end result is you're kidnapped, beaten, and robbed. I guess you could call it irresponsible, but I'm also pretty sure that it's not a stretch to call it a pretty insanely stupid thing to do.
If you do something pretty insanely stupid, it's not a stretch to call you stupid.
I hope you're right. I hope he gets his act together, cleans up his issues and becomes the great WR he was before he blew out his knee in Green Bay. Doesn't mean that he was any less stupid that night in Vegas. Hopefully, if enough people call him out for being a moron, the next guy who puts himself in the same situation will think about Javon and have second thoughts.
Thanks for reading!
