What Does Fox Sports Think of Notre Dame?

College Football, Notre Dame Football, Editorial

I was struck by some comments made by a Fox Sports writer after one of her recent articles. The article was entitled “Jimmy Clausen: Failure to Launch”.

Four of her generalizations stood out to me, especially in comparison to some of her other comments. Let me show you what I mean.

“If I disagree with someone, I simply state that I disagree and back it up. I don't use personal attacks, something many of these so-called men seem to thrive on. The power of the keyboard makes cowards feel like big men. Oh well.”

Some of her comments:

—“Thomas...forgive me, but you're ignorant. Now go get your club and go back to your cave.”

—“I don't mind constructive criticism, but when someone starts out with, "This article blows", I have to wonder about the mentality of that person. Do they argue or debate with someone like that in real life? If so, do they have limbs missing?”

—“You will no longer be responded to by me, but please feel free to spout your myopic views around here and make the Irish fans feel good about this season. Someone has to do it.”

—“Now that was well thought out and articulate!”

—“Glad to have entertained you. Laughter is the key to getting over a team that went 3-9.”

—“Hey there...thanks for being the typical Irish fan I know: classy and knowledgeable.”

—“He's [Willingham] got another job besides coach, and sometimes it involves golfing around other coaches. Maybe Charlie does his at restaurants?”

“I'm far from a hater. I respect Notre Dame more than you will ever know. But I also will kick their legs if I feel they are going down the wrong path.”

Some more of her comments:

—“True story: I walked into this bar across from the stadium called the Linebacker (or was it quarterbacker?) and had a license plate hanging around my neck. The plate said: 55to24, the score of the '74 USC-ND game.

An Irish fan walked up to me and said, "Did you make that in prison yourself?" I looked him square in the eyes and said, "Buy me a drink. I'm scared to death to be in here." He laughed, and I hung out with some of the most hardcore football fans I have ever encountered. We talked smack, and had a great time.

One invited me to dinner at his mom's house after the game. Now that's a great time! The Irish fans love football, and are the most knowledgeable when it comes to understanding football. They can be myopic though, as seen here in the comments section. I think it's a guilt thing...they're afraid to incur the wrath of God if they say anything negative about their team. Me? If my team stinks, I scream about it. It's good for you to vent. :)” (Italics mine)

—“I have relatives that live there, and I can tell you firsthand that I heard from many Irish fans, when I was out there, that Ty "wasn't Notre Dame material." Read into that however you may, but I think he showed a tremendous amount of class in not suing them for racial discrimination. He would have had a strong case, considering Weis' extension.”

  1. This is the best article I've ever read Michael.

    1. Thanks, Thomas. If it meets your criteria, make it your "Pick of the Day".

    2. Haha, absolutely Michael, it would be my pleasure. There's no one on this site that can be more annoying and less educated than the author of the abovementioned article.

  2. easy on her. she is a gator and usc fan. what do expect. she probably wants to work at ESPN with kirk change his mind every 365 days around december 7 herbstreit.

  3. nicely written, do you have the link to the article this women wrote?

  4. wow..... OWNED

    1. oh i also read some of her articles on Fox Sports.com (all 3 of them for the "big time writer")... they are some of the most uninformed embarrassments to sports and journalism..

Her article on baseballs clutch hitters had Lance Berkman at #1... the list also excluded David Ortiz and Derek Jeter... I think that gives you a little more insight into Lisa's knowledge of sports

  5. OWNAGE.

I can't say she didn't have it coming; as they say Mess with the Bull and you get the horns. You have done a great service for this website and sports journalism as a whole. Thank you.

  6. i think if you're going to attack someone's comments after an article then that should be done in the comments section.

if you want to call her out in an article, focus on what she writes in her articles not on the comments she makes after them.

not that you asked for my opinion, but this seems like a personal smear piece.

    1. All Lisa does is right comments after her articles because her original article isnt good enough to make the point she wants to make. She has to defend every little argument with some comment backing it up. If she was a good writer, all those questions would be answered in her articles. I can't believe that she is a "professional writer." Like I told her, she better thank the Civil Rights Act of 1964, because we all know she is on staff solely due to the fact that shes a woman. Most sexy women I know in their thirties have grown up by now and don't really focus on the sports world. The sexy ones are out taking care of their kids or going to the spa or relaxing on the beach, not writing articles for a sports website. No wonder she also writes for Bleacher Report, because God knows no one actually wants to pay her to write the garbage she does.

  7. Ouch that burns. She's the same writer who responded to my comment pointing out a significant CFB trend (regarding Oregon in even seasons) by saying: "Good idea but I don't believe in sports trends."
    Damn...

I hope she replies to this article.

  8. Wow...I'm anxiously awaiting Lisa's rebuttal.

    Amazing job, Michael.

  9. It is astounding how so many hate on the Irish. Being Catholic, and extremely Irish I kind of resent her take on us God fearing fans, who she says cant critique their own because of some unknown wrath. It isn't that at all, though she could do well to get a little more educated, like all are required to be a Notre Dame. We Irish fans suffer from what is called Gherig-ism, that is to not call out your own. He led by example, and didnt even call out the Babe...not meant for the young lady.
What ND suffers from is 1.) Ty's recruits are still starters on Charlie's team. and most importantly 2) High Ass educational standards. I have been going to games, with my Dad and 8 brothers and sisters for almost a decade. These fans epitmize class, and you will not see them dog the other teams fans, ever. It is refreshing, considering some of the raw thug types at most schools. Thank God teams like USC and MIAMI dont have a prior felony rule, or demand that their players have more than a 1 GPA...cause they wouldnt field a team. By the time our boys graduate (it takes a 3 GPA) they can properly use the language taught them, and in proper syntax. A good example of Jerome Betis, aka the Bus. Nicest guy ever, but get in his way on the field and you will have blue and gold tattooes, or black and gold.
Look, the fact this "loose lady" writes about a team she hates says it all, bloggers call her a troll, one that is there primarily to incite. It is so JV, and meant only for other haters, and 7th graders. If she writes for the bleacher, then trust this, she isn't a top Fax writer at all. We just merged with them, meaning the parenting company, BRITISH petroleum, will pick what they like...shocker that they would put down the Irish and the Catholics to boot. It wont last too long, no where near the length of time Great Britain has occupied the Mother Land. 26+4=1 Ireland. Majority rules!
In the mean time, Charlie has had 3 top ten draft years, as ranked by the NCAA, for his first three years. 2 of 3 were # 1. And look out because Charlie's boys take over this year.
CAN YOU BLAME HER, after all the FIGHTING Irish (dont forget to put that in next time, the liberal media is trying to get it changed...we are fighting) have the most Titles of all colleges....with 11, 12 if you count the controversial win. It is like my Yankees (no-not a band wagoner, born and bred in Syracuse NY...yes, I am sicilian too. for some reason everyone always asks that when they know youre from Syracuse-a) ....when you are at the top it is best to act like gentlemen...it emulates class, and demands respect, especially in this day and age, that attitude should be a warm welcome to all, especially parents.
In closing I went with the family in 2005 (?) to the game against SU at the dome. Met Julius Jones and his parents before the game (member of the ND Fan squad in Syarcuse)...let me tell you, my dad (75 yrs old...yes, watched the four horsemen!) almost got punched out by drunkards behind him for cheering for the Fighting Irish after a TD, and we were getting swamped. Heard more F-Bombs than a Dice Clay show, and Dad asked them to watch the language, his young granddaughter was present. We almost had a brawl...I went and got the cops, who didnt even lift a finger. It took a SU porfessor to chill his fans out, whom was sitting with us. HE apologized and the embarassment was all over his face. MOST all other teams' fans are the same...not in ND though. Never happens.

GOOOOOO IRISH! Remeber when Lou suspended two important starters in that bowl game years ago...it was because they were drinking at a dorm, and had low grades....WHAT...they were passing, but not good enough. I mean, man, ND is a breathe of fresh air...good "read"
HEY, i just did an article attahced to your article....sorry for the book. cant wwait to cover the Fighting Irish this year.

  10. Oh, and Weis did almost die on the operating table...nice she could take advantage and use it against him. That alone speaks volumes about this so-called lady. Frivolous law suit, one would think she should be proud, being a USC fan. He almsot dies because of an infection, that the Doctors did nothing about btw.
Maybe next she can put down his daughter too, with words like retarded. Though "lady woman" better hurry, she may not have too long left to take more low blows...something she must be used to doing! OH!

Thats my Dice Clay impression, just for her.

  11. What a lame article.

    Generate an original idea.

These points have all been made already in Lisa's original article.
