Jon Kitna is a marked man coming into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Cowboys CB Terence Newman, for one, intends to repay Kitna for the QB's trash talk after Detroit's victory over Dallas last season—regardless of the consequences.
Newman left little doubt as to his intentions during a Tuesday radio interview.
"(Kitna) better just hope I don't blitz off the edge," Newman said, "because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars)—however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet definitely."
By making these comments, of course, Newman has essentially marked himself. NFL Executive Vice President for Football Operations Ray Anderson informed Newman on Thursday that he's now more than just a blip on the league's radar.
"Be advised that your comments will now compel us to carefully monitor your activities in this weekend's Cowboys-Lions game," Anderson said in a nasty-gram delivered to Newman's locker. "As you know, flagrant fouls may subject a player not only to fines, but to suspension as well. So conduct yourself accordingly."
Newman has not commented on the warning.
Kitna, for his part, has already begun retreating from last year’s remarks, saying that he was just "out there having fun."
He did not, however, offer any apologies.
As I see it, the situation begs two questions:
1. Did Kitna think he'd never have to face this Cowboys defense again?
Note to Kitna: NFL Players NEVER forget when their abilities are called into question...EVER!
And unless you're planning to retire, you're probably going to see them again.
2. Did Newman think his threats would go unnoticed by the NFL?
Note to Newman: If you feel the need to avenge yourself or your team, don’t tell the whole world about it—let your actions do the talking.
In any event, at least Newman has managed to inject some excitement into an otherwise boring contest.

Just when I was starting to respect the Cowboys he goes and says something like that. Why doesn't Newman donate that money to some needy charity instead of threatening to hurt somone. Awful. That really bothers me.

He was kidding. He's not stupid. He even said today he never blitzes so he almost never gets to a QB PLUS Kitna's bigger than him so...he was kidding just like Kitna was kidding.

Grow up, its a physical game. You say "just when you were starting to respect the cowboys" you lose their respect, due to the fact that he was trash talking? You obviously have never played any type of physical sport, if you knew half the stuff that was said on and off the field, you really wouldnt think what he said was a big deal. If that bothers you dont watch, maybe you should watch soccer or something?
