Dear Major League Baseball and Bud Selig,

Will someone please explain to me why the bottom of the fifth inning was played tonight in Philadelphia? What in the world is baseball thinking? Why did it take until the bottom of the sixth to suspend this game! They should not have even left it to chance. The World Series might have ended 2-1 in the sixth inning.

Do you realize, Mr. Selig, how much respect baseball could have lost tonight?

They tended the field between pitching changes during the bottom of the fifth inning. The field was unplayable at that point. What was the harm in suspending the game? Then there is no controversy at all. The game is not official, and there are no big problems if you can’t play again. You restart the game and try it again tomorrow.

Once again, Mr. Selig, you have found controversy. This series has already been plagued with inconsistency and bad calls—even Joe Buck has said during the broadcast how bad the umpires have been.

Baseball needs to set a new set of rules for postseason plays when it comes to weather delays. Teams deserve to not lose a championship due to weather.

I remember a game in 1997 in Cleveland where it snowed before and during the game. Baseball is hard enough without those elements. How long until one of these World Series is decided by a rain out?

People hate controversy in sports, especially if it decides a major game (tied All-Star Game). We want to have a real champion, not one mother nature has chosen for us. What would baseball’s response had been if the game had ended in the sixth inning with the Phillies ahead?

This is what scares me as a fan: My baseball team is not even playing, and I’m still emotionally invested. Please MLB, don’t let this happen again. Baseball is too important to leave up to rain, snow, or other terrible conditions. The game has now been suspended and will continue tomorrow. Let’s hope we can finish this game and not have any more controversy.

Sincerely,

Concerned Fans
