A list of what can only cause embarrassment to their team, NBA, or in teaching a youngster about the game of basketball.

Coach—Mike D'Antoni

I am now changing my coach it was P.J. Carleismo but you can hardly blame him for the Warriors and Thunder lack of success since he did a decent job in Portland when he had some talent on his team.

So the new coach that I would put as the ultimate embarrassment is Mike D'Antoni. The reason being is he would much rather leave his job then do the right thing. Steve Kerr point blank asked him to have the Suns focus more defensively.

He basically told Kerr the General Manager of the Suns to **** off and let him run the team his own way. That didn't bode well for him because even if he hadn't taken the job with the Knicks he definitely would have been fired.

Mike D'Antoni is the coach who can get a team to score there's no doubt about that. The problem is when things don't go his way he becomes a whiny little baby. For example take a look at this youtube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLOJ7aSz82U&feature=related

What makes D'Antoni an embarrassment is that each year in the playoffs the Suns had to play the San Antonio Spurs and the Suns never got passed them. The reason D'Antoni never changed the philosophy of the team. They took the same approach of no defense and no toughness. The Suns were a group of wimps just like their head coach.

If you don't believe me just take a look at the little brawl between Steve Nash and Robert Horry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0qe7PGCQvI

  1. You lost all credibility with you Steve Nash commentary. Nash can score, shoot, protects the ball, he can run with the best of them, and he penetrates. He demands a ton of attention from the opposition. What else would you want from your point guard? Not only are you wrong, you couldn't be more wrong. By the way, I'm not a Phoenix fan - I'm a rival.

Add yourself to the list - Sportswriter/Analyst - Steven Resnick

    1. Nash maybe the best shooting point guard in the league but he doesn't protect the ball. Seeing how he's been in the top 10 in turnovers for the last 5 years including 4 of those 5 years in the top 4. Last year he lead the league in turnovers with nearly 4 a game.

See again you're only concentrating on the offensive side. Where he's proven if he is harassed he's going to turn the ball over. Just look at the head to head matuchups with the elite point guards in the league. Against Chris Paul and the Hornets last year Nash had 20 turnovers and Paul only had 4 turnovers. This was in 4 games played against each other last year.

Against Deron Williams and the Jazz Nash had 9 turnovers in 2 games. Williams didn't hang onto the ball that much better with 8 turnovers in 2 games. Against Baron Davis and the Warriors Nash had a total of 23 turnovers in 4 games compared to Davis's 9.

Don, before making your points across maybe you should do a little research on them. My point was that Nash is a great offensive player, but he doesn't take care of the ball which is sad especially for a point guard.

The second part that makes Nash embarrassing as I stated previously he doesn't play a lick of defense. His attempts at playing defense when watching him make you just want to laugh. He has no clue what to do. His best move is to try to sit in the lane and draw a charge yes he's gotten a few calls to go his way, but there have been calls that have gotten him a blocking foul where he'll go and whine at the ref because he felt like he was in position.

When you think of the great players in the league today such as Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Lebron James, Chris Paul, etc.....There's a constant in their game that Nash absolutely doesn't have. Those players can all play defense. Nash absolutely can't and it's pathetic that people think of him as a great player when he is absolutely not.

When the Spurs won their championships the constant was their defense. When the Celtics won the NBA title last year it was their defense. The Suns being constantly bounced out of the playoffs by the Spurs was because of the Suns lack of defense and it all starts from their leader, Steve Nash.

  2. Hahah. Nice article. Might as well just call them the Warriors though.

  3. Didn't someone already do this earlier in the day?

  4. You're backtracking Steven. Let's look at what you said.

"This goes to the most overrated point guard the league has ever had...He makes great passes, but that's about it."

Now you backtrack a bit by saying that "Nash maybe the best shooting point guard in the league but he doesn't protect the ball." That's quite a shift from "All-NBA Embarrassment Team" or even "He makes great passes, but that's about it."

Steve Nash's asst to to ratio is well over 3, he has played at least 70 games per year for 8 straight seasons, he does a lot of the little things, has incredible vision, is one of the best free throw shooters in the league...and he is an adequate defensive player - at least as good as Andre Miller.

Erick Blasco, a Senior writer for Bleacher Report rated him as #3 in the league, right behind Chris Paul and Deron Williams. That's where I'd put him too...a far, far cry from being an embarrassment. You're wrong on this, you know it, that's why you have already started to backtrack - just admit it. It's not the end of the world.

  5. Is this the same writer that said Ichiro is "the most overrated player in history"? There are some things about Nash that may you might consider embarrassing, but his game is not.

Much of what you say about Nash, can be said about Magic Johnson... quote: "I don't know of any point guard who has such problems defending his man and that his teammates a majority of a time have to make up for his deficiency."

The haircut earlier in the decade was embarrassing, not his game.

Also, on Rider: "...Rider was an immensely talented individual with a lot of talent." Is that a whole lot of talent, with a little more on the side or what?

    Always interesting...

    1. Did you just compare Steve Nash to Magic Johnson? Don't make me barf! Nash isn't even close to being in the same league as Magic. Nash isn't even better than Tim Hardaway. Nash's game is embarrassing because of what I stated previously. Also I did forget to mention that he can make most point guards look like all-stars while he's defending them.

  6. just admit it...you hate nash...and everyone knows it...

also...i dont think its embarrasing for dampier to sign that huge contract...its embarrasing for the mavs if dampier fails...why would someone be embarrassed from signing a huge contract...

  7. Since you brought up Hardaway, maybe he should be on your list...

On February 14, 2007, Hardaway made a series of remarks that were widely criticized as homophobic. During an interview on Dan Le Batard's radio show on Miami's 790 the Ticket concerning the recent coming out of retired basketball player John Amaechi, Hardaway was asked by Le Batard how he would deal with a gay teammate. Hardaway said he "wouldn't want him on my team." He added that he would shun a gay teammate and would not want him in the locker room. When Le Batard asked Hardaway if he knew his remarks were homophobic, Hardaway responded, "Well, you know I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people. I am homophobic. I don't like it."

We have the captain of your team...

    1. Hardaway was well retired and not playing at the time of the comments. It has no bearing on how he actually played.

  8. Your opening clearly makes this relevant, "A list of what can only cause embarrassment to their team, NBA, or in teaching a youngster about the game of basketball."

This says more about the man (Hardaway) than any shot he ever took in his career. What does this teach a youngster about the game? How to accept people that are different? Be a good teammate? His ignorance and intolerance is more of an embarassment than some guy (Nash) not playing defense and winning an MVP.

You brought Hardaway up, not me. You also said, about Nash, "This goes to the most overrated point guard the NBA has ever had." So you decided to make this a list with historical context.

It's a bitch when you're own quotes bury your story.

    1. Hahahahaha I'm not the only one who thinks that Nash is overrated. People want to put Nash up in the realm of John Stockton as best ever. He's nowhere near what Stockton did. Last time I checked Stockton was tough as nails. Nash is a wuss! Oh Robert Horry tried getting in front of me it's time to act like a little baby and fall to the ground like I just got body checked. Oh and Stockton wouldn't need two of his sidekicks to come save him from the big bad Robert Horry. Nash is pathetic! Let me repeat this for you buddy, Nash is pathetic!

  9. While you say everyone focuses only on Nash's offense, YOU are focusing only on his defense. Way to be a hypocrite.

Let me throw out some more stats for you: When Nash is heading up the point, the team averages 109.3 points and 24.3 assists per game while giving up 99.2 points to opposing teams. When anyone else is running the point (Barbosa, Dragic, etc) the Suns drop down to 103.1 points and 17.7 assists a game while surrendering 102.6 points. Not a real drastic slimb in points allowed, but you're arguing that Nash is "embarassing" for all the wrong reasons. He does exactly what he's supposed to do -- create more scoring opportunities for his teammates and open the floor up. He makes his teammates around him better simply by stepping foot on the court. Yes, his defense may be a little lacking, and he may be a little turnover-prone, but to say that he had "9 turnovers in 2 games" or "23 total in 4 games"... so what? NBA players turn the ball over, and I went back and looked at the stats for those two instances I mentioned. Nash did in fact have 9 turnovers in 2 games against the Utah Jazz last year, but he also had 22 assists in those games, so he's still getting the ball spread around to his team.

Defense is more important to a shooting guard or small forward, because they're only on the floor really to penetrate inside and let it rain from outside. A point guard's defense is less relevant than any other position.

    1. You do realize that defense on a point guard is what helps a team win? Why do you think the Suns haven't beat the Spurs in the playoffs because the Spurs put their best defender on Nash. The Suns don't have a lockdown defender and since they need to use their better defenders down against Tim Duncan or Manu Ginobli. It leaves Nash on Tony Parker who Nash can't defend because of Parker's speed leaving Parker the opportunity to get into the lane to either score or dish off to an open teammate.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PDdb48g4_c

Remember the playoff game last year. Nash wasn't guarding Parker he was guarding Manu Ginobli in this situation when the Suns had a 3 point lead at 104-101. Ginobli of course easily got by Nash and instead of trying to make a defensive play Nash gave up on the play and instead of getting into the passing lane for Ginobli, Nash was underneath the basket leaving Tim Duncan wide open for 3.

Most of the time you would want Tim Duncan to shoot a 3, but this is the Spurs a team known for being clutch. Remember Sean Elliot keeping his feet in bounds and hitting a deep 3? How many championship rings have the Spurs had recently? The answer is 4! How many times recently have the Suns beat the Spurs in the playoffs? The answer is 0 and it all starts off with the lack of defense from the point guard position.

  10. Also what could be considered embarrassing is Mike D'Antoni being a whiny little baby! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLOJ7aSz82U&feature=related

  11. PG- sebastian telfair
    SG- steve francis (recently)
    SF- adam morrison
    PF- darko milicic
    C-michael olowokandi

reverses- Scot Pollard, Greg Oden(one day he will have his last debut), stephon marbury, eddy curry, most of the knicks from the last year, sam cassell (because he looks funny), Patrick O'Bryant..... Michael Vick

IR- Tracy McGrady (he's really good with 20 terribleshots a game, then again so would Mark Madsen be...and you know he prays everyday to every god in every religion for the second round)

Steve Nash is not embarassed about his 2 MVP awards. Erick Dampier just played the system. The others are legit. Why would you write an All-Embarassing team?

    1. If you look at the list of the MVP's in NBA history. Nash is the worst one ever picked he doesn't even belong on a list with Shaq, Michael Jordan, David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, Tim Duncan, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Julius Erving, etc......

  12. I think most of us would be willing to admit Nash is over rated but how is he an embarressment? There are literally 50 point gaurds in the NBA that are worse than him. Some how I dont think the 6'6+ gang on the suns is sitting in the locker room asking Nash how to elevate their defense. Yah you take a little guy who is a great passer your going to take a hit on defense but saying Nash's defensive ineptness is caused by his attitude is just stupid the guy is like 6'. Hes a little guy that routinely takes charges and gets his hand in faces if he can thats what you get when you hire a PG of his size and skill. You get an offensive general with skill shots, no one is expecting Nash to pick up 3 blocks a game except you. Also constantly pointing out how many turn overs he has vs other point gaurds without putting it into ratio form is border line dishonest because a pg whos making 10 assists a game is obviously going to have more TO's than one who is shooting 50% of the time.

    1. Nash is 6'3" not 6'0. So therfore you may want to research your argument before saying something as dumb as "Yah you take a little guy who is a great passer your going to take a hit." Really is that why Muggsy Bogues at 5'3" when he played was a better defender then Nash. In fact Bogues was also a lot tougher than Nash.

Nash is as tall as Deron Williams and Baron Davis yet he is nowhere near them defensively. In fact the best point guard defender in the league is Chris Paul, now how tall is Paul? He's 6 foot. So Nash has 3 inches on Paul. So, yeah your argument is way off base.

By the way the all time leader in assists and steals is a guy who's 6'1 his name John Stockton. So again you're making an excuse that Nash should not have to be a great defender because he's a great passer and can get the assist is just flat out wrong.

It's embarrassing to watch Nash try to play defense. You know it's sad when point guards of lesser caliber then Nash look like all-stars. Nash does't have any intensity on the defensive end and his only hope is to flop or try to take a charge. It rarely works. I'm not expecting Nash to get 3 blocks per game, but I do expect him to average more then .8 steals per game.

Oh an excuse me if I remember correctly but some of the best defenders the game has ever seen were point guards. Remember the Bad Boys era in Detroit Joe Dumars and Isiah Thomas 6'1. One was the same height as Nash and the other was 2 inches shorter. So, your argument is very flawed.
