Poor Dwayne Wade. I like his game so much...but...
He plays for one of the worst championship teams ever.
After his squad took out Dallas in 2006, it's been all downhill. It's like watching some Hollywood teen idol have a big hit, and the next thing you know you don't hear about them until they're 40 years old coming out of rehab!
I understand in football, or baseball, or any other sport...but in the NBA...for a championship team to fall that far from the crown...it's just sad.
That was a great team, too! The veterans mixed with Wade...they just rode the wave.
How could it happen they fall so low?
I surmise that when Miami upset Dallas, their stars Shaq, Zo, Wade, and even Payton hit the Miami clubs pretty darn hard. They got so hooked on those late night parties, that when they were supposed to go and get ready for the season, I'll wager they had a little anxiety over losing those late night parties.
So they probably hit the clubs a little

Then they start off the 2007 season with a 40 point home blowout to Chicago, who later sweeps them in the first round!
Last season Wade got injured, and they were so bad, they made the Blazers 2005 seasons look like a miracle playoff run.
Poor Miami. You can tell Wade really wants to win.
He is going to be traded to a squad that needs him soon...not this season or the next...but Miami will not win again.
But, I don't feel that bad for them or their franchise. Their championship team was assembled and made tough by current Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy, and for Pat Riley to take over head coaching position towards the end and nix Van Gundy like that...I am sure it was all set up from the beginning...but that shows poor taste on their franchise's behalf.
Not only that, they won the championship! My team never has (not in my lifetime...).
Now onto the Blazers...
Wow this team is special. They have blown out three of their last five opponents, and with the exception of opening night, they have come out to play. Watching Brandon Roy get the crowd pumped up while benched at the end of the game reminded me just how much he cares about making our arena the most explosive in the league.
Still...this team needs something.
What we need is that big road win to really spawn the drive to the post season. We need to beat Boston, San Antonio, Dallas, Cleveland, Detroit, or more importantly, the Lakers, in their home court. Once we start doing that, and only then, will we be a team ready to make the post season.
Oh, old school Blazer Brian Grant came into my restaurant tonight, and he hooked me up with a phat tip.
Thanks Brian!

Good read, Andrew.
I agree the Blazers need to prove themselves on the road against some elite teams.

Methinks they will...

Your best work by far in quite some time. And spot on about the road win...though I would count the Orlando win as a road win against an elite team. Assuming they take care of business against the Hornets, which I expect them to do, they have an excellent shot at beating Detroit. That, while certainly an iffy proposition, would be huge.
By the way, at the Miami game, did you notice their bench guy, the one in the brown velvet, who boot-stomped the Wells Fargo parachute thing? Any idea who that was?

I don't know who that was, but he had a pretty darn good reason to stomp that Wells Fargo shute...
