10 Best Coaching Outbursts of All Time
The art of the outburst from a coach is one of the most entertaining things in sports. It brings the crowd to it's feet in anticipation as the coach has a momentary lapse of sanity.
These managers are known to lose their cool once or twice throughout their career.
Everybody has their good and bad days, but on these in particular, the coaches were epic.
Some of these moments are funny, some a bit scary, and a few are just plain wrong. Nonetheless, these infamous moments will remain in sports folklore for decades to come.
Here are the 10 best managerial outburst of all time.
No. 10: Bobby Valentine
1 of 10On June 9, 1999, Bobby Valentine was ejected in the 12th inning of a ballgame.
Valentine decided he wanted to watch his team to the end so he donned a bootleg hat, sunglasses, a Mets t-shirt and a fake mustache.
Hilarity ensued.
Although this outburst was one of silent protest, it deserves to make the list.
No. 9: Earl Weaver
2 of 10Earl Weaver was a firecracker.
As manager of the Baltimore Orioles for 17 seasons, he was ejected a whopping 91 times.
Some say getting thrown out of a game was Earl Weaver's favorite thing to do. He was known for kicking and screaming all the way to the dugout.
Thanks to his overall winning percentage of .583, and his exuberant personality, Weaver was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1996.
No. 8: Mike Gundy
3 of 10After a game in 2007, Oklahoma State Football Coach Mike Gundy let the media have a piece of his mind.
Upset by comments made about one of his players in an article, Gundy encouraged the media to come after him because in his words, "I'm a man, I'm 40".
As a sports fan, you have to respect Gundy's outburst because he defended one of his football players in the big bad world of college football.
No. 7: Bobby Cox
4 of 10Former MLB manager Bobby Cox makes the list because he leads the world in ejections.
Cox holds the record in MLB history with 156.
The man loved to argue with the umpires.
He loved to argue with the umpires so much that when he was honored by the Atlanta Braves last week, he received an honorary ejection.
That says it all.
No. 6: Woody Hayes
5 of 10What Woody Hayes did in the 1978 Gator Bowl was unfathomable.
It was the beginning of the end of his storied career at The Ohio State University.
Clemson linebacker Charlie Bauman was punched in the throat by the six-time National Championship coach after intercepting a pass.
That game was the last of Woody Hayes' career.
No. 5: George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin
6 of 10George Steinbrenner and Billy Martin had an on-and-off relationship that lasted for over a decade.
Martin was named manager of the New York Yankees five times.
Martin was once fired by Steinbrenner during a press conference. Also, Martin was once fired for fighting superstar Reggie Jackson.
Billy Martin deserves credit for being himself.
The love/hate relationship was so infamous, it was satirized in this beer commercial.
No. 4: Bobby Knight
7 of 10One night in 1985, Bobby Knight went "WWF" on the officials.
Upset with a call, Knight was driven to throw a chair across the court in disbelief.
Young fans watching Bobby Knight commentate today are probably unaware of his spirited behavior in the past as a coach.
Bobby Knight was great basketball coach, but he will mostly be remembered for his outrageous outburst.
No. 3: Jim Mora
8 of 10Jim Mora is most famously known for his press conference while coaching the Indianapolis Colts.
When asked about making the playoffs, Mora looks like he was hit by a Mack Truck.
This outburst will forever live in football infamy.

No. 2: Phil Wellman
9 of 10Minor league manager Phil Wellman takes the cake for baseball managers.
Wellman got the gate and then managed to cover home plate with dirt, throw the rosin bag like a grenade and take second and third base with him as he exited.

No. 1: Jeff Van Gundy
10 of 10New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy did his best impression of an ankle-biting dog against Alonzo Mourning and the Miami Heat in the 1998 NBA Playoffs.
The two teams had a vicious rivalry in the late '90's and Van Gundy took it to the next level that night.
